Introduction:

The Day of Atonement was a day of sacrifice. It was a day of denial. It was also a day to focus on God’s provision for the taking away of our sin. All of this was done for a purpose; to prepare the heart of God’s people for that relationship with Him.

A. The focus on the Day of Atonement

B. God is preparing the heart of His people

C. God was preparing His people to hear Him

D. Sin & self were to be put away
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened….

E. Preparing my heart is very important in hearing God
Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem Jer. 4: 3b, 4 NIV

2. PREPARED IN ORDER TO SERVE GOD

A. The Day of Atonement was preparation for service

B. The High Priest had to offer 1st a sacrifice for himself

C. God requires holiness & purity of heart for service

D. Parable of the Sower

E. God has called me to serve

Conclusion:

As we look forward to health & growth, we must be prepared!
Today, we celebrate the Lord’s Table.
