In Your Future: A Gift of Hope

A. A gift of hope came to us at Christmas...
“O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.”
The song was written in 1868 by Phillip Brooks after a trip to the Holy Land.
1. Jesus is the hope of the world!
2. Jesus is the source of hope.
3. As soon as we come into a relationship with Jesus, we have this hope.
4. We grow in our understanding of this hope.
B. This hope is a confident expectation...
1. God has given us two unchangeable things to build a confident expectation.
2. Whatever we face, we can go to Him for refuge.
3. Whatever we face, we can hold to Him and the hope that lies before us.
4. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor.
5. This hope brings us into the very closest presence of God.
6. Jesus is already there for us!
- When we are tempted – God promised us an anchor!
- When we are discouraged – God promised us an anchor!
- When we are afraid – God promised us an anchor!
- When we feel backed into a corner – God promised us an anchor!
- When we want to give up – God promised us an anchor!
- When circumstances overwhelm us – God promised us an anchor!
- When our loved ones encounter hard times – God promised us an anchor!
- When our friends turn against us – God promised us an anchor!
C. Jesus brings hope through...
1. Past promises.
2. Present help.
3. Future glory.
D. His hope, your confident expectation, is all found in Christ...
1. God will rescue you!
2. God has not forgotten you!
3. God personally knows you and all you face!
4. God is not disinterested in your struggles!
5. You are never alone!
“The hopes and fears of all the years…Are met in thee tonight.”
