We will answer three questions regarding the evidence of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling of the church, and then discover what this means for us.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. Is there a place in the world where you have traveled and wished you knew the native tongue? Or do you know a foreign language? How does the use of language in this text give witness to the work of God? Had you been present that morning, how would you have responded?

2. Why is both wind and fire such appropriate ways to depict the work of the Holy Spirit? Review the following texts as you answer: Isaiah 32:14-18, 44:3; Ezekiel 36:26-27, 37:1-14; John 3:8; Exodus 2:3-6, 19:18-19.
3. Describe a recent time in your life when you were amazed by “the mighty works of God” (v. 11). Is this a relatively frequent experience for you, or more infrequent? Why is this so? What has caused the world around us (and perhaps ourselves at times!) to become increasingly unaware or unnoticing of God’s mighty works and how might this be overcome?
4. Our text is relatively vague about what “mighty works of God” were spoken about specifically. Read the following Scriptures and giving thought to what might have been said or proclaimed. Psalm 70:4, 86:10, 115:1, 143:5-6; 1 Corinthians 2:9.
5. The world around us is full of those who mock or scoff at Christianity, Jesus, and divine interventions (miracles). What do the following texts say about this and how are we to respond? 2 Chronicles 36:15-16; Habakkuk 1:5; Acts 13:41; 1 Corinthians 2:14; 2 Peter 3:3-4; Jude 18.
6. Describe a time in your life where you have sensed a special empowering or filling of the Holy Spirit for witnessing or some other ministry need. How did you respond, and what happened in this situation?
