A DIVINE PARALLEL

2 Samuel 5:4 (MSG)
4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and ruled for forty years.

1. Jesus began His ministry at the age of 30.

a. some wanted to make Him a king

2 Samuel 5:5 (MSG)
5 In Hebron he ruled Judah for seven and a half years. In Jerusalem he ruled all Israel and Judah for thirty-three years.

2. Hebron was where King Saul had ruled.

a. Saul’s disobedience brought much tribulation

b. the Tribulation to come will last about seven years and a few months

3. Jesus was crucified at the age of 33.

4. Let’s look at a few more parallels between these two.

1 Samuel 16:20 (KJV)
20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

5. David sent by their fathers to a troubled Israel.

6. David brought:

a bread - David brought read for his brothers

b. Jesus was the living bread and made us His brothers in Christ

c. David brought a bottle of wine

d. Jesus brought on the Holy Spirit (wine) and made us into bottles to be filled with wine (the Holy Spirit)

e. kid - flesh to eat to sustain their health during the war

f. Jesus became a lamb (kid) to be eaten as part of the communion

g. this sustains our well being

1 John 4:14 (KJV)
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

7. Jesus was also sent by His Father.

1 Samuel 17:28 (KJV)
28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

8. David was rejected by his brothers.

John 7:5 (KJV)
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

9. Jesus’ brothers didn’t receive him either.

1 Samuel 17:33 (KJV)
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

10. David didn’t seem like a savior.

1 Samuel 17:34-36 (KJV)
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

11. David learned to stick with the fight in the wilderness.

a. he obeyed his father to watch the sheep

Hebrews 5:8 (KJV)
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Though he were a Son - Jesus didn’t seem like a savior either.

12. Jesus learned to stick with the fight in the wilderness as well.

a. He obeyed His Father to watch the sheep

2 Samuel 5:6 (MSG)
6 David and his men immediately set out for Jerusalem to take on the Jebusites, who lived in that country. But they said, "You might as well go home! Even the blind and the lame could keep you out. You can't get in here!" They had convinced themselves that David couldn't break through.

13. The Jebusites were a mixed race of giants and humans.

a. they practiced child sacrifices

1 Samuel 17:51 (KJV)
51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

14. David’s victory of the enemy was Israel’s victory.

1 Samuel 17:52-53 (KJV)
52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. 53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

15. Israel gained dominion over the enemy and took the spoils of war.

Romans 5:19 (KJV)
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

16. Jesus’ victory became our victory.
17. Now we can pursue the enemy and take back what rightfully belongs to us.

1 Samuel 22:1-2 (KJV)
1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. 2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

18. David, as a King went into exile over a divided nation.

a. a bunch of nobodies became His mighty army

Revelation 11:15 (KJV)
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

19. Until this is fulfilled, Jesus is in a type of exile in heaven.

a. and you and I are that mighty army

2 Samuel 5:7 (MSG)
7 But David went right ahead and captured the fortress of Zion, known ever since as the City of David.

20. This is now Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 5:8 (MSG)
8 That day David said, "To get the best of these Jebusites, one must target the water system, not to mention this so-called lame and blind bunch that David hates." (In fact, he was so sick and tired of it, people coined the expression, "No lame and blind allowed in the palace.")

21. The KJ translates ‘palace’ as ‘the house’.

22. That water system is now called Hezekiah’s tunnel.

2 Kings 20:20 (KJV)
20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

23. It supplies water into Jerusalem

2 Samuel 5:9 (MSG)
9 David made the fortress city his home and named it "City of David." He developed the city from the outside terraces inward.

24. Again, the "City of David." is now Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 5:10 (MSG)
10 David proceeded with a longer stride, a larger embrace since the GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies was with him.

25. It means David grew more powerful because God was with him.

26. Notice the expression they coined... "No lame and blind allowed in the palace."

a. fast forward around a thousand years

John 5:1-2 (MSG)
1 Soon another Feast came around and Jesus was back in Jerusalem. 2 Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there was a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda, with five alcoves.

27. Jesus is in Jerusalem, the ancient ‘City of David’.

28. The Pool of Bethesda gets its water from Hezekiah’s tunnel.

John 5:3 (MSG)
3 Hundreds of sick people—blind, crippled, paralyzed—were in these alcoves.

29. How many people were there? Hundreds!

John 5:4 (KJV)
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

30. Most bibles leave this verse out.

John 5:5-6 (MSG)
5 One man had been an invalid there for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him stretched out by the pool and knew how long he had been there, he said, "Do you want to get well?"

31. Invalid is another way of saying that he was lame.

"Do you want to get well?" - kind of a silly question to ask.

a. He didn’t ask any of the others who were there (hundreds)

John 5:7 (MSG)
7 The sick man said, "Sir, when the water is stirred, I don't have anybody to put me in the pool. By the time I get there, somebody else is already in."

32. He had accepted his circumstance for 38 years.

a. he felt alone and abandoned

John 5:8-9 (MSG)
8 Jesus said, "Get up, take your bedroll, start walking." 9 The man was healed on the spot. He picked up his bedroll and walked off. That day happened to be the Sabbath.

33. In the Bible, if you got healed, it was customary to go to the house of God and show yourself to the pries.

34. Notice, Jesus didn’t go to anybody else at that pool.

35. The next time a pool was involved that was fed by Hezekiah’s tunnel concerns a blind man.

John 9:5-6 (MSG)
5 For as long as I am in the world, there is plenty of light. I am the world's Light." 6 He said this and then spit in the dust, made a clay paste with the saliva, rubbed the paste on the blind man's eyes,

36. What is taking place?

Isaiah 64:8 (NLT)
8 And yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.

37. Jesus is performing a miracle.

John 9:7 (MSG)
7 and said, "Go, wash at the Pool of Siloam" (Siloam means "Sent"). The man went and washed—and saw.

38. And now, a blind man can see again.

39. Did you notice:

a. that Jesus specifically targeted the lame and the blind

b. that in both incidents pools were involved

40. The point?

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT LIMITATIONS
HAVE BEEN SPOKEN IN YOUR LIFE...

OR BY WHOMEVER...

JESUS WILL SEEK YOU OUT AND SET YOU FREE!
