APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. Reflect upon this parable and discuss these questions: Are you more like the self-righteous and skeptical Pharisee or the grateful penitent? Why or why not. And, what risk was this woman taking in coming into the house of the Pharisee? Why was she so bold? What did Jesus see in this woman that Simon did not?

2. What principle(s) do these texts set forth: Isaiah 1:18; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Romans 5:20 and 1 Timothy 1:15. How have they brought comfort and encouragement to your own life and impacted how you live and treat others? Why is it that love is the evidence of forgiveness?
3. Review Luke 5:17-26 and discuss the ways in which this passage is similar. Observe especially how “faith” is seen or evidenced, and what these passages declare about who Jesus is and what He is able to do.
4. Love is at the heart of Christian faith. Read the following passages and discuss how this is to be played out in our own lives. Who is our example of this love and what is therefore to be our response? Leviticus 19:18; 1 Corinthians 13:3; Galatians 5:14; 1 John 3:23, 4:11.
5. Reflect upon this parable and share with the group what we learn about Jesus, the woman, and Simon the Pharisee. What are qualities or attributes that are worthy of us to follow and which might be lacking in your own life. What are qualities we would want to avoid? What is the single-most encouragement you receive from this parable?
6. Jesus received this woman when most others would have shunned her. Share with the group someone in your own life who believed in you and saw the best in you even when others did not. How did that make you feel? How did you express your gratitude?
