Today's sermon: "Recovering Jesus' Birthplace"
Luke 10:34

He went up to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. He then lifted him onto his own mount and took him to an inn (πανδοχειον)
and looked after him.
Luke 2:7

…and she gave birth to a son, her first-born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the
καταλυμα.
Word of the day:
Septuagint: The first translation of the Hebrew (as well as the Aramaic portions of the) Old Testament into Koine Greek. In Latin Septuagint means “70,” which is based on a story that 70 people worked on translating the Hebrew to Greek.
φατνη: manger

Lk 2:7: and she gave birth to a son, her first-born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a φατνη (manger)…

Lk 2:12: And here is a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a φατνη (manger).

Lk 2:16: So, they hurried away and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the φατνη (manger).

Lk 13:15: But the Lord answered him and said, ‘Hypocrites! Is there one of you who does not untie his ox or his donkey from the φατνη (manger) on the Sabbath and take it out for watering?’
φατνη = אבוס
Job 39:9: Is the wild ox willing to serve you or spend a night beside your φατνη /אבוס manger?

Prov 14:4: Where there are no oxen, the φατνη /אבוס manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests.

Isa 1:3: The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s φατνη / אבוס manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.
Infancy Gospel of James

“18:1 And Joseph found a cave and led Mary there and stationed his sons to watch her, (2) while he went to a find a Hebrew midwife in the land of Bethlehem.”

19:12 “So the midwife went with him. (13) And they stood near the cave and a dark cloud was hovering over the cave…. (18) And the midwife departed from the cave and met Salome and said to her, “Salome, Salome, I have to describe this new miracle for you. A virgin has given birth, although her body does not allow it.”
Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew

14: “And on the third day after the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the most blessed Mary went forth out of the cave, and entering a stable, placed the child in the stall, and the ox and the ass adored Him.”
