Here’s what we can learn from this story:

*Jericho was a cursed city but as Jesus walks through the curse is lifted
The curse came about due to man trying to defy and fix what God had torn down.
Jericho is also where the Good Samaritan was and where Zacchaeus was in the tree.
Jericho was 15 miles from Jerusalem and great traveling crowds were walking toward the city.

*Bartimaus cries out. He can hear but can’t see

He pleads mercy (we can plead the blood). Notice the disciples earlier: they argue over who will sit where, fused about children, wanted to call fire down on a guy. Jesus will soon ride into Jerusalem on a donkey.
We too sometimes hear the promise but can’t see it. God is going to SHOW His Favor!

*He cast off his garment before Jesus healed him

First he is casting off anything that might slow him down!
But secondly, he is throwing away his previous identity as a blind man.
He was familiar to the crowd. Considered a nobody to be ignored. But the authority of Jesus silenced the crowd.
His name was BLIND Bartimaus. He was known only as the “son of Timaus.”
Don’t let your condition define you!

*His new identity is “follower of Jesus”
*God give us a touch that will cause us to see and follow You!

He is passing through your curse right now!
