Family Praycation - Calling

AS WE GATHER we continue our series, “Family Pray-cation.” Today’s theme, “Calling,” reminds us of the importance of looking forward. We often look forward to vacations and new school years, to graduations and weddings, but do we dream of God’s plans for us together through the gift of prayer?

"All People That on Earth Do Dwell"

ALL PEOPLE THAT ON EARTH DO DWELL,
SING TO THE LORD WITH CHEERFUL VOICE.
HIM SERVE WITH MIRTH, HIS PRAISE FORTHTELL;
COME YE BEFORE HIM AND REJOICE.

KNOW THAT THE LORD IS GOD INDEED;
WITHOUT OUR AID HE DID US MAKE.
WE ARE HIS FOLK, HE DOTH US FEED,
AND FOR HIS SHEEP HE DOTH US TAKE.

O ENTER THEN HIS GATES WITH PRAISE;
APPROACH WITH JOY HIS COURTS UNTO.
PRAISE, LAUD, AND BLESS HIS NAME ALWAYS,
FOR IT IS SEEMLY SO TO DO.

FOR WHY? THE LORD OUR GOD IS GOOD:
HIS MERCY IS FOREVER SURE.
HIS TRUTH AT ALL TIMES FIRMLY STOOD
AND SHALL FROM AGE TO AGE ENDURE.

TO FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST,
THE GOD WHOM HEAV’N AND EARTH ADORE,
FROM US AND FROM THE ANGEL HOST
BE PRAISE AND GLORY EVERMORE.
THE INVOCATION:

P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
CONFESSION/FORGIVENESS

P: As the family of God, we turn to our Heavenly Father in our prayer of confession.
C: Father in heaven, we thank You for the loved ones You give us. We confess that too often our faults and failings are most apparent in those relationships where love and service should be offered most readily—in our homes and families. Forgive us, Father, and help us to grow in love for one another as we share Your forgiveness.
P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives all our sins. Therefore, in the name of Jesus I tell you that Your sins are forgiven. Go and put your faith into practice through love and service. Live the new life that Jesus brings. Share His forgiveness with your spouse, your parents, your children and the family of Christ.
C: Amen.
Psalm 127-128

P: Unless the Lordbuilds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
C: Unless the Lordwatches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
P: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
C: Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the childrenof one's youth.
P: Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord,
C: who walks in his ways!
P: You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;
C: You shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.
P: May you see your children's children!
C: Peace be upon God’s people!
P: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
C: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
O Christ, Who Called the Twelve

O Christ, who called the Twelve To rise and follow You,
For saking old, familiar ways For ventures bold and new:
Grant us to hear Your call To risk security
And, bound in heart and will to You, Find perfect liberty.
PRAYER OF THE DAY

P: Gracious Lord, You have called us out of the darkness of sin and into Your marvelous light of real life. As You have called us to live out our faith in our daily relationships, so give to us Your Holy Spirit move us and motivate us to courageous living. We pray this in Your name and to Your glory.
C: Amen.
APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Sermon Hymn - "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing"

COME, THOU FOUNT OF EV’RY BLESSING,
TUNE MY HEART TO SING THY GRACE;
STREAMS OF MERCY, NEVER CEASING,
CALL FOR SONGS OF LOUDEST PRAISE.
WHILE THE HOPE OF ENDLESS GLORY
FILLS MY HEART WITH JOY AND LOVE,
TEACH ME EVER TO ADORE THEE;
MAY I STILL THY GOODNESS PROVE.

HERE I RAISE MY EBENEZER,
HITHER BY THY HELP I’VE COME;
AND I HOPE, BY THY GOOD PLEASURE,
SAFELY TO ARRIVE AT HOME.
JESUS SOUGHT ME WHEN A STRANGER,
WAND’RING FROM THE FOLD OF GOD;
HE, TO RESCUE ME FROM DANGER,
INTERPOSED HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD.

OH, TO GRACE HOW GREAT A DEBTOR
DAILY I’M CONSTRAINED TO BE;
LET THAT GRACE NOW LIKE A FETTER
BIND MY WAND’RING HEART TO THEE:
PRONE TO WANDER, LORD, I FEEL IT;
PRONE TO LEAVE THE GOD I LOVE.
HERE’S MY HEART, O TAKE AND SEAL IT,
SEAL IT FOR THY COURTS ABOVE.

OH, THAT DAY WHEN FREED FROM SINNING,
I SHALL SEE THY LOVELY FACE;
CLOTHED THEN IN THE BLOOD-WASHED LINEN,
HOW I’LL SING THY WONDROUS GRACE!
COME, MY LORD, NO LONGER TARRY;
TAKE MY RANSOM’D SOUL AWAY;
SEND THINE ANGELS SOON TO CARRY
ME TO REALMS OF ENDLESS DAY.
Sermon - "Calling"
Sermon Reflection
Offertory

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence; and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with Your free spirit. Amen.
Post - Sermon Hymn - "Christ Be My Leader"

CHRIST BE MY LEADER BY NIGHT AS BY DAY;
SAFE THROUGH THE DARKNESS, FOR HE IS THE WAY.
GLADLY I FOLLOW, MY FUTURE HIS CARE,
DARKNESS IS DAYLIGHT WHEN JESUS IS THERE.

CHRIST BE MY TEACHER IN AGE AS IN YOUTH,
DRIFTING OR DOUBTING, FOR HE IS THE TRUTH.
GRANT ME TO TRUST HIM; THOUGH SHIFTING AS SAND,
DOUBT CANNOT DAUNT ME; IN JESUS I STAND.

CHRIST BE MY SAVIOR IN CALM AS IN STRIFE;
DEATH CANNOT HOLD ME, FOR HE IS THE LIFE.
NOR DARKNESS NOR DOUBTING NOR SIN AND ITS STAIN
CAN TOUCH MY SALVATION: WITH JESUS I REIGN.
Prayers/Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespassagainst us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
