There are 3 words that any relationship cannot exist without – “please forgive me” and “I am sorry!”

The Apostle Paul, in 1 Cor. 13 – “love does not keep a record of wrongs…”

Matthew 6:12 (NLT) 12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

Forgiveness in Greek: aphiemi = to send away, to leave alone

2 Areas of Forgiveness With God…

1. To Be Made Right With God – Total Forgiveness & Eternal Life.
Ephesians 1:7 (CEV) 7 Christ sacrificed his life's blood to set us free, which means that our sins are now forgiven. Christ did this because God was so kind to us.

Ephesians 1:7-8 (MSG) 7 Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we're a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! 8 He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need…

2. To Remain Right With God – Unbroken Fellowship.

Conviction leads to repentance. Conviction is not only the feeling of guilt in our lives but the opportunity to experience the totality of God’s love, grace and mercy. It is His offering of a renewed opportunity to live life to the fullest extent of God’s original design!

Ø God’s motivation is always love – He is Love! When you to feel guilty over sin that is God’s way of not letting go in the wrong direction.
Ø He will never allow you to move so far away from Him without you feeling His love-tug through conviction.

1 John 1:6-9 (CEV) 6 If we say that we share in life with God and keep on living in the dark, we are lying and are not living by the truth. 7 But if we live in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away… 9 But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away.

Hebrews 10:12-14 (CEV) 12 But Christ offered himself as a sacrifice that is good forever…. 14 By his one sacrifice he has forever set free from sin the people he brings to God…

When there is true repentance, we view sin from God’s perspective.

God’s Forgiveness Includes…

1. ALL CONFESSED SINS.
Acts 13:38-39 (CEV) 38 My friends, the message is that Jesus can forgive your sins! The Law of Moses could not set you free from all your sins. 39 But everyone who has faith in Jesus is set free.

2. HEALING FROM THE PAIN OF RESENTMENT.
Matthew 6:12 (NLT) 12 … as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

Ø Forgetting God’s grace in our lives is a leading contributor to bitterness:

Hebrews 12:15 (NIV) 15 See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

Ø An unforgiving person will become a bitter and resentful person
Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV) 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

A warning about unforgiveness: Matthew 6:14-15 (CEV) 14 If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you. 15 But if you don't forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Ø When I accept Christ’s love, He empowers me to forgive – everything is possible with God.

3. STRENGTH TO OVERCOME HABITS THAT I’M STRUGGLING WITH. “I just can’t stop this bad habit…”

When you live in deliberate disobedience to God, He allows the consequences off that to awaken you to His offering of forgiveness – COME BACK TO GOD!

“We are free to live any lifestyle we choose, but we are not free from the consequences of it.”

John 8:34-37 (NIV) 34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin…36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Romans 7:24-25 (NLT) 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ø Bad habits can range from drug addiction, pornography, stealing, shopping, cursing, cheating, gambling, sexual sin…

Psalm 19:12-13 (NLT) 12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. 13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me.
