1. The Truth: We are born to be wild
One definition of "wild" is "untamed, undomesticated, free." We were created to be free.
5 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1-2)
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (Galatians 3:17)
There's no greater joy than in being who God created you to be and doing what God created you to do.
The Westminster Shorter Catechism puts it this way:

One of our VBS songs this year is called "What You're Made For" the lyric goes like this:
Who knows your every thought, what you are all about
Who gives you life and breath, and loves you from the inside out
Who always understands and wants to be your friend
God does! And if you want to know him more, and find out what you're made for...
Who knows your every thought, what you are all about
Who gives you life and breath, and loves you from the inside out
Who always understands and wants to be your friend
God does! And if you want to know him more, and find out what you're made for...

2. The Lie: We think wildness is wickedness (Romans 6:7, 18, 22)
Anything we are created to be, Satan is opposed to. So the enemy has waged war against our freedom with the biggest fake news campaign in history. He has convinced humankind that true freedom is found in sin. Unfortunately, the church has responded with the idea that being wild is to be sinful.
Neither of these is true. Paul is crystal clear in Romans 6: when we give in to our sinful nature, we become captive to sin.
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin (Romans 6:6-7)
17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,
22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.

3. The Reality: We become conditioned to captivity (Num. 11:1-5; also John 5:1-8)
We can either become so caught up in sin that we fail to see it for the bondage it is, or we can be so afraid of freedom that we fall into another kind of bondage: legalism. Either way, we can become so conditioned to captivity that we miss the freedom God offers us. Two stories--one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament, illustrate this truth:

4. The Need: We must be reborn to be wild (Psalm 118:5; John 8:36)
For us to experience true freedom, we must be born again.
Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.(Psalm 118:5)
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.(John 8:36)
How do .we do that? Here's how we are going to explain it in Vacation Bible School this week:
