AS WE GATHER on this day of celebration we praise the Risen Lord Jesus Christ who, through His ascension, is with us always, protecting us and blessing us by His power. It is important that we keep our minds on Him, living as His holy children.

Confession/Forgiveness
Pastor: People of God, earthbound, yet looking for heaven, let your thoughts now ascend to God that your hearts may be ready to worship Him purely and completely.
All: Almighty God, You sent Jesus Christ to teach and heal, and to preach the coming of Your reign. Yet we complain about the hardness of His teachings. We prefer our brokenness to His wholeness. We fear the change promised in “new life.” Even as You lifted Jesus into Your glory, so lift us out of our sin. Raise us to full stature as Your daughters and sons, inheritors of Your promise.
Pastor: Hear the Good News! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners! In the name of the risen and ascended Jesus, we are forgiven.
All: Amen.

“Living Hope”
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation I turned to heaven
And spoke Your name into the night
Then through the darkness Your loving-kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished the end is written
Jesus Christ my living hope
Who could imagine so great a mercy
What heart could fathom such boundless grace
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken I am forgiven
The King of kings calls me His own
Beautiful Savior I’m Yours forever
Jesus Christ my living hope
Hallelujah praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ my living hope
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus Yours is the victory whoa

Confession of Faith
(the meaning of the 2nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed from Luther’s Small Catechism)
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity.

"See, the Lord Ascends in Triumph"
See, the Lord ascends in triumph; Conqu’ring King in royal state,
Riding on the clouds, His chariot, To His heav’nly palace gate.
Hark! The choirs of angel voices Joyful alleluias sing,
And the portals high are lifted To receive their heav’nly King.
Who is this that comes in glory With the trump of jubilee?
Lord of battles, God of armies, He has gained the victory.
He who on the cross did suffer, He who from the grave arose,
He has vanquished sin and Satan; He by death has crushed His foes.
While He lifts His hands in blessing, He is parted from His friends;
While their eager eyes behold Him, He upon the clouds ascends.
He who walked with God and pleased Him, Preaching truth and doom to come,
He, our Enoch, is translated
To His everlasting home.
He has raised our human nature On the clouds to God’s right hand;
There we sit in heav’nly places, There with Him in glory stand.
Jesus reigns, adored by angels; Man with God is on the throne.
By our mighty Lord’s ascension We by faith behold our own.

Pastor: Ascended Lord Jesus Christ, we bring our prayers to Your throne of grace, asking that You will hear us.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: We pray for our world, the earth on which You once walked, and all that dwell upon it. Bless us with all things needful for our lives that we may enjoy this place which is now our home.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: We pray for the Church, which is our spiritual home. Bless the leaders and the people with a full measure of faithfulness that we may live out our callings in this world.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: We pray for ourselves, that we would be Easter people all year long, sharing the good news of Your triumph over sin, death, and the devil and pointing people the way in which You have gone.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: We pray for those with special needs, whose earthly journeys are challenging or difficult. Especially we remember the sick, the shut-in, and those known to each of us who are in need of prayer.
People: Lord, have mercy.
Pastor: Finally, Lord Jesus, we thank You for the faithful witness of those no longer with us here on earth who rejoice in Your eternal presence. May we be inspired by their faithful witness and seek to serve You in love all of our days. In Your name we pray…
All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

"Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me)"
One day when Heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He
Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed
Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day
One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
The hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
and took the nails for me
Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again
Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glory will shine
Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing
My Savior, Jesus, is mine
Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
