“Tôwdâh” – The Expectation of Praise

TAKEAWAY: The essence of “Tôwdâh” is believing in faith that God will fulfill His promises. When we raise our hands in praise and thanksgiving to God with great expectation of what He will do, we will be able to stand in AWE of His great works.

**a future thinking praise. Recognizing God’s faithfulness

“Barak” – The Posture of Praise

TAKEAWAY: “Barak is a physical, emotional, and spiritual posture of praise. It is a humbling of ourselves in reverence, adoration, and thanks to God.”

**We won’t worship something we think is lesser than us. Barak is a recognition that God is not just greater, but the greatest.
A. “Tehillâh” – The Songs of Praise
Psalm 22:3 NKJV “But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises (tehillâh) of Israel.”
“Songs of tehillâh may not rhyme; perhaps they don’t have the catchiest tune. These songs may not be the most polished, but they come from the worshipper’s heart, in the moment. Songs of tehillâh flow from the depths of intimacy with God.”
- Holy Roar, pg. 87
TAKE AWAY: As our Worship is led by the Holy Spirit He will give us creative and spontaneous expressions of Praise and Worship as well as freedom.
B. “Shâbach” – The Shout of Praise
Psalm 145:4 NKJV – “One generation shall praise (shâbach) Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.”
“Quite literally, it means to raise a holy roar. The word is used sparsely in the OT, a mere 11 times, but each time, it has powerful effect.”
- Holy Roar, pg 98-99
Psalm 117:1 NLT “Praise the Lord, all you nations. Praise (shabach) him, all you people of the earth.
TAKE AWAY: We should be more enthusiastic about the things of God than the things of the world. God is worthy of our highest as well as our loudest praise!

At Emmanuel Church we desire to be a people who live a lifestyle of Praise and Worship. Worship transforms people and families.

Worship is our outward and inward expression of thanksgiving and praise to the One who created us. Worship includes corporate and private singing, prayer, giving, and submission to God in all areas of our lives. It is first and foremost a response to who God is and a response to what He's done for us. Worship is to be a lifestyle that fills our journey with Christ, and not merely a corporate activity. When we worship we put Jesus first and seek to be led by the Holy Spirit as we purposely seek to be in His amazing presence.
“Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song. By grace we learn to sing, and in glory we continue to sing.”
– Charles Haddon Spurgeon
