EMPOWERED TO OVERCOME
Psalm 5:12 (KJV)
12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
1. The blessing and the favor are divinely connected.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2. Since Jesus made you righteous:
a. then the blessing and the favor of God is upon you
3. The blessing and favor of God upon your life:
a. is designed to make you superior to your circumstances
b. to cause you to succeed, excel and overcome
Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV)
18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
4. The power is the blessing.
Proverbs 10:22 (KJV)
22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
5. The blessing...it maketh rich.
Deuteronomy 8:18 (NLT)
18 Remember the LORD your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.
gives you power to be successful - the blessing empowers you
6. What for?
2 Corinthians 1:8 (NLT)
8 We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it.
7. Notice, even though they were blessed and had the favor of God...
a. they experienced...
We were crushed - they were overwhelmed by unexpected circumstances beyond their control
and overwhelmed - they were emotionally and mentally overcome due to the situations they were facing
beyond our ability to endure - they were at the point of quitting and giving up
and we thought- they thought, not prayed or praised
we would never live through it - that life as they knew it was over
a. they were bracing themselves for defeat, to lose it all
8. But the favor of God caused them to overcome overwhelming circumstances beyond their control.
KK#1. DON’T LET THE PRESSURE OF YOUR SITUATION CAUSE YOU TO FORFEIT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT_______
9. Instead of trusting God and waiting:
a. we tend to settle for whatever comes our way
b. and miss out on what God placed in our hearts
10. We end up taking the wrong job, relationship or whatever:
a. to stop the pressure of the circumstances
2 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)
7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.
11. That great power is the blessing given to us by Jesus.
12. The blessing is an empowerment to:
a. excel b. increase c. prosper
d. succeed e. to rise above f. to overcome
2 Corinthians 4:8 (NLT)
8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.
pressed on every side by troubles - to be pressed means that we:
a. will be boxed into a corner
b. with no way out in sight
c. with more than just one attack going on
but we are not crushed - the blessing and favor keeps the devil from utterly destroying us
We are perplexed - may not understand what’s going on or why
but not driven to despair - when you have a revelation of the blessing and favor...
a. it keeps you in the game even thought it seems and feels hopeless
2 Corinthians 4:9 (NLT)
9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
hunted down - this is where you feel like all hell has come after you
but never abandoned by God - the enemy wants you to think God doesn’t care
a. the blessing and favor is working on your behalf
We get knocked down - you will experience some hits
a. physically b. emotionally
c. financially d. spiritually
but we are not destroyed - but the favor and the blessing:
a. is the empowerment in your life
b. to overcome anything that you may face
2 Corinthians 4:10 (NLT)
10 Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
Through suffering - we are forced to endure or put up with things
our bodies - this includes physical attacks
2 Corinthians 4:11 (NLT)
11 Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies.
13. The blessing and favor of God empowers us to overcome.
KK#2. YOU ARE SUPERIOR OVER ANY SITUATION THAT YOU MAY FACE...ALWAYS!___
1 Corinthians 15:58 (MSG)
58 With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don't hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.
14. The blessing is the empowerment.
15. Favor is your opportunity to release that power.
16. In this verse, we see several ways to overcome whatever you may be facing:
With all this going for us - during trying times...
stand your ground - make the decision not to
a. give in b. give up c. settle for less
d. compromise e. disappear or run away
And don't hold back - purpose to do the best that you can DESPITE the circumstances
Throw yourselves into the work of the Master - what you make happen for others, God makes it happen for you
confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort- overcome mental warfare by focusing on the King and the Kingdom
Genesis 50:20 (MSG)
20 Don't you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people.
17. God will ambush satan’s plan to take you out.
a. the blessing and favor is working on your behalf
