Too Good to Be With Jesus? (Mark 2:17)

How is your life with God experience going?
Missing life with God is not merely wrong – it is tragic.
It is not our sin and brokenness that keeps us from interacting with Jesus – it is our unwillingness to allow Jesus to be with us as we really are that keeps us at a distance.
What we do see, over and over again, is when the real condition of a person’s life is put before Jesus, Jesus meets them right there is amazing and transformational ways.
It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners. Mark 2:17
We learn to hide our bad side and try to only show other people the parts of us that are easily accepted.
Unbridled honesty with Jesus is the pathway to interacting with and experiencing Jesus – not learning to perform well.
There are at least three ways we can arrive at this condition of unadulterated honesty before Jesus.
● We Can Come Voluntarily. Mark 2:17

In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him and he will continue to recue us. 2 Corinthians 9-10
Soul Training Exercise:
Take time this week to think about the ways in which you are broken; the parts of you and your life that are painful, sad, frightening or exhausting.
Instead of thinking about how you can get out of that brokenness to get closer to Jesus, begin thinking about inviting Jesus to come be with you in whatever condition you are in – Just as you truly are. Let him be with you as He was with the woman caught in adultery or as he was with the woman at the well. Let him be present with compassion, patience, concern, mercy and grace. Don’t do anything else. Just invite him to be with you as you really are. Refuse to be too good for Jesus.
After a few days of doing that begin to notice what has changed. Quite likely what you will notice first is that you have changed, not your situation or brokenness. You will find that something happens inside you when you allow Jesus to be with you as you are. That something is beautiful and transformational. Only Jesus can accomplish that and He only does that when we allow Him to be present with us as we really are.
