The women came to anoint the body of Jesus.
They weren't expecting a resurrection.
That was the farthest thing from their minds.
But to their shock and surprise and utter confusion, when they got to the tomb, the seal was broken, the guards had disappeared, and the tomb was empty.
What had happened? No one could say for sure.
Two angels stood beside them and uttered two of the most powerful sentences in the Bible:
Luke 24:5-6
5 "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen!”
I believe in the resurrection of the dead because I believe in the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning.
The Bible says,
1 Thessalonians 4:14
"If we believe that Jesus died and rose again even so God will bring with him those who sleep in Jesus”
His tells us the Grave can’t hold us down!
It’s a "Temporary Residence"
The grave is not final.
Hebrews 9:27-28
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
For my resurrection doesn’t depend on me.
It doesn’t depend on my good deeds.
It doesn’t depend on any merit in me at all.
It depends wholly on my Lord Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning.
He promised if I would trust in him, someday I would rise with him.
1 Corinthians 15:26
“The last enemy that will be destroyed is death”.
Death will not have the last word.
There will be “victory on the last battlefield.”
Life is a series of battles for all of us.
But in the last battle, the struggle with death, there is victory for the children of God.
There is good news from the graveyard?
That's what Easter is all about.
If you're looking for Jesus on Easter Sunday, don't look in the graveyard.
He isn't there.
If you are looking for Jesus today, you can meet him right now.
May I introduce you to him?
His name is Jesus of Nazareth.
He is called the Son of God.
God loved you so much that he sent Jesus to die on the cross for you.
He was buried in Joseph's tomb.
He rose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning.
He paid for your sins so that if you believe in him, you will never perish but have everlasting life.
You can have eternal life.
You can know your sins are forgiven.
You can have victory on the last battlefield.
The living Lord Jesus Christ would like to meet with you right now.
Will you give your life to him?
Will you trust him?
Will you come to him?
I pray you will.
This could be the happiest Easter of your life if you will come to Jesus.
The next move is up to you.
Because of Easter, we worship a living Christ.
Amen.
