Fight for the Family
Fourth of July

Nehemiah 4:7-15 (NLT)
7 [a]But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs, Ammonites, and Ashdodites heard that the work was going ahead and that the gaps in the wall of Jerusalem were being repaired, they were furious. 8 They all made plans to come and fight against Jerusalem and throw us into confusion. 9 But we prayed to our God and guarded the city day and night to protect ourselves.
10 Then the people of Judah began to complain, “The workers are getting tired, and there is so much rubble to be moved. We will never be able to build the wall by ourselves.”
11 Meanwhile, our enemies were saying, “Before they know what’s happening, we will swoop down on them and kill them and end their work.”
12 The Jews who lived near the enemy came and told us again and again, “They will come from all directions and attack us!”[b] 13 So I placed armed guards behind the lowest parts of the wall in the exposed areas. I stationed the people to stand guard by families, armed with swords, spears, and bows.
14 Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”
15 When our enemies heard that we knew of their plans and that God had frustrated them, we all returned to our work on the wall.

Proverbs 24:3-4
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”

THE BIG QUESTION: WHAT SHOULD A FAMILY BE?

Psalm 27:4-5 (NLT)
4
The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5
For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.

(FIRST) Make your home a dwelling place

"That I may dwell in the house..." Ps 27:4

In the bedroom:
I pronounce blessings of restful sleep.
Psalm 3:5 (LB), “Then I lay down and slept in peace and woke up safely, for the Lord was watching over me.”
Psalm 3:5 (NIV), “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.”
Psalm 4:8 (NIV), “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

In the bathroom:
Promises of health.
Exodus 15:26 (NIV)), “He said, ‘If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.’”

In the Kitchen:
God promises provision and strength.
Exodus 23:25-26 (NIV), “Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.”

In the living room, great room, or den:
Joshua 24:15 (NIV), “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." May singing and praise, and talking of God’s goodness and faithfulness be often heard in this room.

In the entry and hall:
God said, He will bless your goings out and your comings in and that if we acknowledge Him in all our ways that He will direct our path.

(Second) Make your home a temple

"To behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple." Ps 27:4

Philemon 2 (NLT)
2 and to our sister Apphia, and to our fellow soldier Archippus, and to the church that meets in your house.

The second function of a house: a house must be a place where children can grow in their spiritual relationship with God. David even said that he could behold "the beauty of the Lord"; it means personal experience with God. Teach your children to know God. Do not depend on the church for their spiritual growth. That is not how it should be, and it is not biblical.

When church is the only spiritual encounter two things happen.

Have a family altar
Read the scripture together. One of the things we used to do is when reading a verse we assigned parts for the bible story, and as a family we acted it out.
Memorize scripture together
Apply scripture through teaching moments
Protect the peace in your home. Don’t bring home work, don’t bring home offenses, to bring home the spirit of the secular world.

(THIRD) MAKE YOUR HOME A PAVILION

"For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle [shelter, pavilion]." Ps 27:5

Psalm 91:1-2
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

Ephesians 4:26-27 (NLT)
26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”[a] Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

Ephesians 4:31-32 (NLT)
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Bitterness - a spirit that refuses reconciliation.
Rage—outbursts of anger or quick temper for selfish reasons. This could mean continual and uncontrolled behavior.
Anger—a continuous attitude of hatred that remains bottled up within.
Harsh Words—loud self-assertions of angry people determined to make their grievances known.
Slander—destroying another person’s good reputation by lying, gossiping, spreading rumors, etc.
Malice—doing evil despite the good that has been received.

“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

(FOURTH) Make your house the secret place of His Tabernacle

"In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;" Ps 27:5

The fourth function of a house is: a house must be our personal place to develop our relationship with God. If the second function, talks about we as a family, now it talks about we as one person. Family must be a place where we can grow spiritually, a place where we can find God. Many people try to find God in the church, that’s good, but its not enough! Our house is the perfect place to build our personal relationship with God.

Where it seems that kids enter into rebellion is:
•Christianity is all rules and no relationship, but every relationship has rules.

•Or what is being seen at church is not being seen at home.

Online/Text Giving

We know life gets crazy, so this is one less thing you have to remember on Sunday morning.  Give when it is convenient for you!The word "tithe" is derived from the Hebrew word ma’aser and it literally means a tenth. Ten percent of everything belongs to the Lord. In Malachi 3:10-11, God says, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house." The 'storehouse' is the Old Testament picture of the New Testament church. So as New Testament believers, we worship the Lord with the tithe; or the ten percent. But giving away 10% of your income can be a big--and often frightening--commitment!  Essentially, it's a contract based on the promises of God in Malachi 3:10-11.God doesn't need our money. He owns everything. But we give first because it takes faith to give first and God wants us to trust Him. He tells us in Proverbs 3:9-10 to "honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops and then your barns will be filled with overflowing." You can also you our Text to Give option. Text the amount followed by the designation to (432) 218-2655. You will receive a text message back walking you through the process.
