Strange Kingdom - Meditations On The Cross
Easter Week Celebration
Living as disciples of Christ – together!

Every Day (Monday—Sunday)

Begin your time in Praise and Worship. This can include focusing on a certain attribute of God: Faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9); Sovereign (Daniel 4:34b-35); Good (2 Chronicles 5:13); Righteous (Deut.32:4); Merciful (Deuteronomy 4:31); Holy (Leviticus 19:2)

Spend time in Devotions & Prayer: Read the daily devotion from Strange Kingdoms - Meditations on the Cross. Close in prayer asking God to lead you to those people who don’t know Him or have drifted away from Him. Pray for the courage to invite them to Peoples Church on Easter Sunday.
Specific Prayers for our 3 Days of PRAYER & FASTING
(Based on Strange Kingdoms Devotional)

TUESDAY, April 16:
Lord, we know that You have suffered for us, You have suffered like us, and you suffer with us. We know that your time of abandonment was our promise of your presence. As we thank you, we pray for an increasing awareness of You with us, especially as we abstain from food.

WEDNESDAY, April 17:
Lord, thank you that what you did is complete. Thank you that we don’t have to earn acceptance, favor, or forgiveness, even through fasting. Thank you for offering us through the cross a bridge to a new life - life in all its fullness. We receive it. Remind us as we fast and pray this week.

THURSDAY, April 18:
Lord, how can I thank you for what you have done for me on the cross? Thank you that you have exchanged my sins for salvation and my meaninglessness for purpose. Give me a humble heart to receive your forgiveness and a grateful heart to know that I am now—today—a favored child of gold, amen. (Throughout this day, spend time rejoicing about what God has done for you.)
The Purpose of Fasting
"Fasting helps to express, to deepen, to confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything...to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God." Andrew Murray

During fasting, the believer's focus is removed from the physical things of this world and intensely concentrated on God. As we gain spiritual clarity of thought while fasting, it allows us to hear God more clearly. Fasting also demonstrates a profound need for God's help and guidance through complete dependence upon him.

What Fasting is Not
Fasting is not a way to earn God's favor to get Him to do something for us. Rather, the purpose is to produce a transformation in us; a clearer, more focused attention and dependence upon God.

Types of Fasts
Choose a type depending on your health and preference:

Water Fast - means to abstain from all food and juices
Partial Fast - means to eliminate certain foods or specific meals
Juice Fast - means to drink only fruit or vegetable juices during meal times
Abstaining from anything that stands between you and God: computer, TV, sports, reading, hobbies, social media, etc.

Prepare yourself Physically (Food fast):
- Physical preparation makes the drastic change in your eating routine a little easier allowing you to turn your full attention to the Lord in prayer.
- Do not rush into your fast. Prepare your body. Begin by eating smaller meals before starting a fast.
- Avoid high-fast and sugar foods.
- Eat raw fruit and vegetables for 2 days before starting a fast.

Make Your Commitment Ahead of Time:
For maximum spiritual benefit, set aside ample time and be alone with the Lord. Listen for His leading. the more time you spend with Him, the more meaningful your fast will be. (Example...take you meal time and spend that time with God.)
