Matthew 5:20

Jesus’ Problem with the Pharisees and Religious Leaders

-They didn’t PRACTICE what they PREACHED. (Matthew 23:1-4)
-They lived for HUMAN praise. (Matthew 23:5-7)
-They kept people from KNOWING GOD. (Matthew 23:13)
-They ignored the condition of their HEART.(Matthew 23:25-28)

A DIFFERENT MOTIVE

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. - Matthew 5:8

A PURE HEART

1) Allow God to ____________ my heart.

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? - Jeremiah 17:9

You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder’... But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. - Matthew 5:21-22

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. - Matthew 5:27-28
