Matthew 16:21-26
21From then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples
that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders,
chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.
22Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him,
“Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to You! ”
23But He turned and told Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan!
You are an offense to Me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns,
but man’s.”
24Then Jesus said to His disciples,
“If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow Me.
25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.
26What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life?
Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?

Answered prayers
Workers in East Asia had been sharing with a student,
Jimmy*, and his girlfriend, Sally*. Outgoing and charismatic,
Jimmy became a leader in the weekly seeker studies.
He became committed to Christ.

During the summer, Jimmy was preparing for a business competition
with his classmates.
As the lead speaker, he was well prepared,
but right before the event, he got sick and lost his voice.
Before the match, he decided to pray and ask God to heal him.

When the competition began, his voice was still gone and it went poorly for his team.
Immediately after, he began to feel better
and his voice came back quickly.
Jimmy later shared that God showed him two things:
first, that God heard his prayer and had the power to heal him;
and second, that his priorities were wrong,
he was focused on the wrong things.

Jimmy immediately prayed and asked for forgiveness,
and told the Lord that he believed in Him
and wanted to put Him first in his life.
Lift up Jimmy, asking that he will stand firm in his faith
and grow in maturity.
Pray that he will be a powerful witness to his business team,
the seeker study group, and Sally.
