Text: Gen 1:26-28, 2:18-24
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our everyday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors.
SCRIPTURE SUMMARY: In Genesis 1:26-28 we see that God created humankind in his image in order to rule over his creation under his authority. We also see that both women and men are needed to image God and to fulfill his commission to multiply and exercise dominion over creation.
There’s a lot of ways we learn. Some things we’re told. Other things we see. Growing up, what did you learn about women and men? What was helpful and what was not so helpful?
What was most challenging to you in Sunday’s sermon? What was most encouraging?
Read Genesis 1:27. This verse affirms the absolute equal value of both men and women. Why do you think both women and men are needed to fully image God?
How have you felt limited to fulfill your calling because of your gender? How have you felt empowered to fulfill your God-given calling because of your gender?
Read Genesis 1:26, 28. What does God commission both men and women to do upon the earth? Why are both women and men needed to fulfill this commission?
Pray that the Lord would bring unity between men and women in our church. Pray that we would affirm the equal worth of both women and men as made in the image of God while also affirming their distinctions. Also, pray that the Lord would forgive us of the ways we have used gender wrongly in our society and within the church.
Scripture: Genesis 1:26-28, 2:18-25
