OUT OF THE WILDERNESS: David – Running from Saul Various

DAVID:He was best known for…
* GIANT slayer
* Second KING of Israel
* JESUS was born into his ancestral line
BACK STORY
* Saul was the FIRST king of Israel
* Saul DISOBEYED God and led others to do so
* The prophet, Samuel, anointed David to be the next KING of Israel
* Saul needed a MUSICIAN and found David
* David defeated GOLIATH with God’s power
BUT THEN…
1 Samuel 18:6-9
Sometimes after a great victory, there can come an unexpected ATTACK!
* Saul becomes JEALOUS of David
* Saul attempted to KILL David multiple times, without cause, due to JEALOUSY
* David had to RUN from Saul
DURING THIS WILDERNESS TIME FOR DAVID…
* Saul attempted to KILL Jonathan, Saul’s own son!
* Saul commanded Doeg (Saul’s Servant) to kill 85 priests, because they had helped David!
DAVID’S HEART RESPONSE CAN BE SEEN IN THE PSALMS
Psalm 52 - David CRIES out to God
David’s Prayer:
* He recognized God’s eternal GOODNESS in the midst of difficulty.
* He recognized God would bring JUSTICE to his enemy.
* He recognized God’s MERCY on him, even when things were tough.
RECOGNIZING THIS MOVED HIM TO RESPOND ACCORDINGLY:
* David WORSIPPED in the middle of his hardship.
* David WAITED on God to be his ultimate salvation.
While being pursued, David and his men hid in a CAVE in the wilderness
(Again, we see his heart, during this time, as recorded in the Psalms.)
Psalm 142 and Psalm 57:
All that David had learned about God was put to the test. When his world was crashing down around him, David still…
* TRUSTED God
* WORSHIPPED God
* This moved him to OBEY God, when temptation came.
1 Samuel 24 – David was encouraged to get REVENGE and take matters into his own hands. David REFUSED!
David trusted God to be…
1. DELIVERER
2. PROTECTOR
3. FAITHFUL to His promise
WHAT ABOUT US?
When we are wronged by others, do we…
1. TRUST God?
2. WORSHIP God?
3. OBEY God?
