Pastor Joseph's Bio

Pastor Joe was born in the little town of Crasna (Romania). Ever since he was a child, he has been fascinated by the unique connection between pastors and their special book, the Bible. When at the age of 7 he received his first little Bible from a brave pastor who was able to procure it for him in spite of the interdictions of the communist regime, he felt special and decided one day he would become a pastor.

After serving as a Pastor for 8 years in Romania, in 2013 he immigrated to the USA. He currently serves as Lead Pastor of Plantation Seventh-day Adventist Church. Along with his wonderful wife Anda and their gorgeous daughter Alessandra, he enjoys proclaiming God’s grace and ministering to his fellows.

Pastor Joe is currently enrolled in a doctoral Program (DMin in Preaching) with Andrews University. His hobbies are languages, music, and poetry.

In the last verse of chapter 11, John the Apostle sees the Ark of the Covenant in the Heavenly Temple. That is a reminder of God’s faithful presence with his covenant people.

Then Revelation 12 starts with a story… There is a woman (symbol of God’s covenant people) who is about to give birth to a baby. There is also a dragon… What is he up to? He wants to swallow the baby. Can he? No! The child was caught up to the throne of God…

The dragon misses his pray, but not only does he miss the “prey”; he is declared a looser and is cast out from heaven. That happened after the cross, when Jesus’ victory was ratified in heaven. What’s next in the story?
TO HER PLACE

[NIV: to the place prepared for her in the wilderness], where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. (Wilderness…eagles’ wings… this is covenant language.)

Look at this verse in Exodus 19:4. This is God speaking to the people of Israel in the wilderness:
This is a description of the history of Christianity. Some of you may be familiar with the concept of Dark Middle Ages. In the Bible this period of time is described as 1260 days, 42 months, or 3,5 years (year, years, half of a year).

Throughout the Dark Middle Ages God’s faithful people had to hide in the
wilderness/isolated places in order to escape persecution…
The story goes on, and we reach the final segment of the battle…
When Israel, God’s covenant people, is faithful to him she’s a pure woman. When Israel is unfaithful (when she turns to idols), she is a prostitute. In Rev. 17 there is a prostitute…Over time, the shiny woman became a prostitute… God’s end-time people are not referred to as the woman, but as the remaining ones/remnant of the woman’s seed…
In the Bible, the concept of “remnant” is used for a group of Israelites who survived war, destruction or other calamities, and continued as God’s chosen people. Or, when the majority apostatized, a small remnant remained faithful to God like when God reminded Elijah, who thought everybody apostatizes and he was left alone… God reminded Him there
were 7000 that had not worshipped Baal (1Kings 19:18)…
The remnant/survivors of God’s people at the end of earth’s history is identified by 2 characteristics: keep the commandments of God and have the Testimony of Jesus…

Keep the commandments of God

What comes to mind when I say that? The Decalogue – it is the constitution of the covenant. God wrote it with His finger… It lays out the basic moral principles that should govern divine-human and human-human relationships.

The purpose of the Decalogue was to teach God’s covenant people how they can enjoy the holy/special life of the covenant. God’s law encouraged God’s people to bring their life into
alignment with divine principles.

The Jews called the 5 books of Moses the Torah (instruction… or the law). But the Torah is not only the Decalogue. There are other sets of commandments there like the Book of the Covenant, or the Holiness Code… all those are instructions. These other laws expand on
those general principles of the Decalogue in practical terms…

In a wider sense the entire Old Testament was called Torah… instructions. That’s why the apostle Paul talks about the Old Testament calling it “the Law.”

Please notice this: at the time when God gave Israel the 10 Commandments, had already delivered them from slavery in Egypt. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land
of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. (Exod. 20:2 NKJ)

So God had already accomplished their salvation from slavery before they received the commandments. God had loved them already, so their appropriate response to His love for them would be to gratefully love him with obedience.

As 1 John 4:19 says it: we love him because he first loved us!!!

This is crucial to understand. People need Jesus who delivers them from their bondage before they are asked to obey God’s commandments! God says: I’m asking you to do/not do some things based on the fact that I’m the Lord your God that brought you out of slavery!
They have/hold fast the testimony of Jesus Christ

What is this testimony of Jesus? Revelation 19:10 defines the testimony of Jesus as the spirit of prophecy… In John 15:26 Jesus promised that he would send the Holy Spirit and when the Spirit will come, he will testify about Me – said Jesus.

But the Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus using people. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit took possession of Christ’s followers and they started testifying about Him! That’s the spirit of prophecy. In a sense, all the followers of Christ are prophets; we have this prophetic
mandate to testify about Jesus Christ.

Moreover, the Holy Spirit gives the gift of prophesying to some people in the church, just like in biblical times. Some had a local impact; others had a wider recognition. Some only spoke; others also wrote. With this in mind, it shouldn’t sound strange to us the remnant that God has used Ellen G. White as a prophetic messenger to bring a testimony about Jesus. Read
her writings, especially the Desire of Ages, and you’ll be amazed of her testimony about Jesus.
In the survival experience of the remnant: the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus have to be together. The commandments of God without the testimony of Jesus become rigid rules, external formalism or conformism… legalism, reluctant compliance… It is when you don’t kill but are a murderer at heart… you don’t commit adultery but in your heart you’re an adulterer! At the same time, the testimony of Jesus, without the
commandments of God (without fulfilling the will of God, is false testimony… In other words, the Jesus that “saves” you leaving you in the swamp… or in the wilderness is not the real Jesus. The remnant that survived the systematic attack of the dragon has the two combined.
Final Attack

And now the dragon is launching his vicious final attack… how will we survive?
