“I raise a hallelujah, my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah, heaven comes to fight for me.”
A Lifestyle of Sacrificial and Generous Giving.
8 Ways That Practicing the Spiritual Discipline of Generous and Sacrificial Giving Causes Us to Grow Closer To Christ
1. Generosity is a character trait of God and when we give we emulate a portion of God’s character causing us to intentionally worship Him by our giving
2. The recipients of our giving are created in God’s image and thus we are validating the image of God in them when we help them.
3. Relatedly we also know from Jesus’ teaching that He identifies especially with those in need and when we help them, He takes it personally and when we don’t help them, He takes it personally (Matthew 25:31-46).
4. Sacrificial and generous giving is an antidote to greed, materialism, self-consumption and narcissism. All of which are antithetical to the values and ethos of the Christian lifestyle (I John 2:15-17, I Timothy 6:7-10, 17).
5. Sacrificial giving is an expression of dependence on God to meet our needs. It connects us more deeply with God (Philippians 4:19).
6. Using our God-given resources of time, talents, possessions and influence to bless God’s enterprises and His people is a validation that all our resources of life come from Him (Deuteronomy 10:14).
7. Giving to God’s enterprises and His people is an act of obedience, worship and a statement of our faith in God and His Word (Romans 12:1-2).
8. Blessings and provision are promised to those who tithe and to those who give generously and sacrificially. We are more likely to flourish and thrive physically and spiritually when we tithe and give generously to God’s Kingdom and to His people. (Malachi 3:10, Luke 6:38)
