Today's Message: Making Disciples
Main Idea: We make disciples by learning how God is working around us and joining him to help others choose to live their lives as Jesus himself would.
The goal of discipleship is developing a Christ-like character.
1. Attitude of trust and submission.
2. Knowledge of God and reality through Scripture.
3. Developing skills by doing what God says. We see illustrations of this in Jesus and his Father's relationship in Jesus' baptism and temptation.
A Disciple
A disciple of Jesus will increasingly share God's heart for others to have a growing relationship with Jesus. You come to know Jesus through people who have chosen to disciple and invest in you! Jesus invites you to work with Him to help other become disciples of Jesus.
How do we make disciples?
See how God is working around us
- Knowledge: God is at work
- Attitude: Want to know how He is working.
- Skills: Asking questions of God and others to learn where and how He is working (Jn. 5:17, Mt. 7:7-8)
Join God where He is working
Baptize people (interact with them) with the character of God as seen in Jesus by seeing them and treating them as Jesus would have (Mt. 28:19)
Teaching them to do what Jesus says
- Knowledge: help disciples learn directly from Jesus
- Attitude: help disciples respond to Jesus with their whole hearts
- Skills: Help disciple think about their influence, serve others, make disciples, and equip disciples to make disciples.
