The Rescue Church
Fan or Follower
Fan or Follower? Jesus is inviting us to seriously define our relationship with Him. Do we really know Him? Are we truly following Him with our lives or are we just fans? Jesus isn’t interested in gaining more fans who admire Him from a distance, who want to be close enough to gain the benefits, but not so close to require sacrifice. He’s looking for followers. In this 13-week series based on Kyle Idleman’s Not a Fan, we discover the keys to becoming completely committed followers of Jesus Christ.

The majority of Jesus’ disciples are ______________, not ________________.
(John 6:26; 35; 66)
Fan = Enthusiastic admirer
· Fans are enthusiastic about Jesus. (John 6:14)
· Fans use Jesus for political power. (John 6:15)
· Fans follow Jesus for personal gain. (John 6:26)
· Fans follow Jesus for entertainment. (John 6:30)
· Fans only follow Jesus when his teaching is easy. (John 6:60)
Q: Am I a follower of Jesus? And if not, why does it matter?
· Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
· Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
· What if all of life comes down to this one question (Am I a follower of Jesus?) What if there really is a heaven and there really is a hell, and where I spend eternity comes down to this one question?
