Living in a Broken World
Brokenness
God's Design
"And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good" (Genesis 1:31 ESV)
Sin
Sin has left this world in a sorry, terrible condition. You see it in each life as we all struggle with physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational brokenness every day. We see all around us the evidence of (1) brokenness from moral evil - the result of living with broken people - and (2) brokenness from natural evil - the result of living on a broken planet.
"...They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator..." (Romans 1:25 ESV)
The Bible is a Book About:
1. Brokenness
When we read Scripture, we face the world as it actually is, in big-screen, high-definition detail.
We see the brokenness of this world through the graphic, real-life, fallen-world stories found in the Bible.
The Bible is a Book About:
1. Brokenness
2. Grace
Jesus
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16 ESV)
"And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross" (Colossians 2:13-14 ESV)
WE NEED TO BE RESCUED!
Turn/Believe
"...Repent and believe in the Gospel" (Mark 1:15 ESV)
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesains 2:8-9 ESV)
Grow
"For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Phillippians 2:13 ESV)
Leverage the brokenness in your life for:
1. His glory
2. The Gospel
Go
1. Acknowledge your brokenness
2. Turn from self to Christ
3. Place your faith in Him
