The El Cap Rescue of 1972

In late September of 1972 a couple of friends from Oregon were climbing the Nose when one of them pulled a very large and very loose block onto his leg as he was leading above Camp 5, resulting in a broken leg. What ensued was a rescue of major proportions. I’m posting these pictures for the historical record...

I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist

Written by Norman Geisler & Frank Turek, I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist argues that Christianity requires the least faith of all world views because it is the most reasonable. The authors lay out the evidence for truth, God, and the Bible in logical order and in a readable, non-technical, engaging style. Geisler and Turek provide a firm challenge to the the prior beliefs of doubters and skeptics.

Interview with Frank Turek

Frank Turek, co-author of "I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist", takes an unorthodox approach to spreading faith to the next generation. To some, the concept of having faith in a higher power or a set of religious beliefs is nonsensical. Indeed, many view religion in general, and Christianity in particular, as unfounded and unreasonable. This book is an interesting read for those skeptical about Christianity, as well as a helpful resource for Christians seeking to articulate a more sophisticated defense of their faith.

Building (supernatural) hope

Does the Old Testament teach the resurrection of the dead? Most scholars say that only a handful of Old Testament passages even hint at such a concept and that resurrection is mostly a New Testament doctrine. However, while the New Testament is most explicit on the subject of a future bodily resurrection (e.g. 1 Corinthians 15), the Old Testament really lays the groundwork for the New Testament’s teaching. This can be seen in Ezekiel 37:1-14.
For Personal Reflection &/or Growth Group Discussion:

Imagine if the USA was defeated in a war and the top 20% of the United States' leadership was held captive in a foreign land. How might you feel?
Have you ever lost hope for the future? How? What did it feel like? How did losing hope for the future, effect your present? Does Psalm 137 reflect that mood well? How?
Who do you know who might be suffering from the symptoms of lost hope?

Are you one to suffer from "the dilemma of the hesitant decision maker"?
In chapter 37, Ezekiel is not. Why?
Regarding those you know who might be suffering from lost hope (from above), how can you take some responsibility and help them? What causes you to hesitate?
What are the obvious needs that you could help take responsibility for in our community of faith? In our community of Simi Valley? What causes you to hesitate?

How does your hope in Jesus Christ empower you? How do you share your hope with others? Do you feel you need to be better equipped to do so? How might you become better equipped?
