Confusing Scene (Verses 2-4)

What an amazing scene! But understanding the description and even picturing in our minds doesn’t clarify what is going on here. We know that this is important. We know something special and significant is happening. We know that God is revealing something about who Jesus is and why he came. But, exactly what is still unclear! Once again, we are in good company. Peter doesn’t have a clue what to make of this CONFUSING SCENE either.
Confusing Request (Verses 5-6)

Peter has witnessed firsthand all that Jesus has said and done. He has been with him each step of the way. He, now, has just seen Jesus’ appearance radically change into something more glorious than anyone or anything he had ever seen before… But he still doesn’t fully get it! He still doesn’t see clearly.
Clear Statement (Verses 7-8)

“Jesus is temple and tabernacle to end all other temples and tabernacles, because he is the sacrifice to end all sacrifices…” -Tim Keller

God the Father and Jesus could not have made a more Clear Statement about who Jesus is, what he came to do, and why that is important than with this transfiguration of Jesus and this declaration.
Remaining Confusion (Verses 9-13)

The disciples still don't get it! They are still confused! They are more focused on Elijah than they are on Jesus. Jesus lovingly and gently shifts their focus off Elijah and back to the fact that he must suffer and die.
IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE: 1)Fix your eyes on Jesus!

There are countless things in our world that take our focus off of Jesus. Many of these things are good things, but they distract us from what is most important. Confess and repent of the areas in your life where your eyes have shifted from Jesus.
IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE: 2) “Listen to Him”

Jesus is the Christ and Messiah! He knows exactly what we most desperately need to be delivered from: sin, separation from God, and God’s wrath. Further, he has already died and rose again to provide the salvation from these things! Listen to Him tell you what you need to be delivered from and how He will do it!
IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE: 3)Don’t miss the point!

We need to be taught and re-taught that Jesus must die, because we often don’t see sin as our greatest problem and don’t like the idea of Jesus on a bloody cross as the solution. However, this point it is too important to miss! Don’t miss it! Fix your eyes on Jesus! Listen to him!
