What are you worried about?
If you reflect back over the last days, weeks, months or even years, what do you spend the most time and energy focussed upon? What are you most concerned about? In part 4 of our series on the Sermon on the Mount, we explore Jesus teaching on worry, priorities and who is really our Lord.
There are two kinds of treasure. There is the treasure that consists of things in this world; money, possessions and property. The kind of stuff that most of the world spends most of their time and energy chasing. This kind of treasure is temporary. Jesus teaches his followers to focus on a different kind of treasure.
What kind of treasure are you pursuing?
What we choose to focus on will fill our heart and soul. A good eye, focussed on God alone, will fill us with light. A bad eye focussed on earthly treasure will fill our whole heart and soul with darkness.
What is your attention focussed on?
This is the bottom line. At the end of the day you can only have one true Lord. It is either Jesus or it is not. There is no middle ground. Jesus does not abide a divided devotion to his Lordship.
Who is your Lord?
“I am not storing up treasure, I am just trying to get by”
Most of us would say that we are far from storing up treasure on earth, we are just trying to get by. We are just trying to put food on the table and clothes on our families back. Pile of treasure or struggling to get by, Jesus wants to shift our focus from things to him.
What are you really worried about?
Jesus wants us to be set free from worrying about storing up a pile of treasure, or just trying to scrape some crumbs together. Jesus’ followers are to have one Lord and one priority.

Life Group Discussion Questions Below

As our life groups gather this week, we have attached our reference verse and some questions to prompt a deeper discussion and search into this week's topic.

If you are not currently part of a life group, and would like to join a small group of like minded people in fellowship and connection during the week, please contact Nick on 0417472474 to register your interest.
1. What do you think Jesus means by “treasures on earth” and “treasures in heaven”?
2. Why do you think what we treasure has such a hold on our hearts?
3. “You cannot serve both God and money.” How does this statement challenge your own relationship with money and possessions?
4. What does the kind of worry that Jesus talks about here look like today?
5. How can we make God’s Kingdom our only priority?
