Islam
Conflicts between Muslims and Christians remain common around the world. Some people would say such conflicts are avoidable because both faiths worship one God, the same God. But are they the same God? Do Islam and Christianity simply express their worship of God in different ways? This lesson will examine some of the key differences between Christianity and Islam.

How Should We Respond to Orlando?
Food for thought because we CAN'T ignore what happened in Orlando.
https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/5-ways-christians-can-respond-to-the-orlando-shooting1. WHO is God?
[Can't explain anything you don't know.]
[Can't explain anything you don't know.]
If Allah is not triune, then one cannot claim that he understands relationship or love because he needed creation to have an object of his love and devotion.
2. Is Jesus the Son of God?
For Muslims it is blasphemy to consider that God would have physical offspring.

Scripture teaches us that: [Remember “Accurate & Reliable”]
- Jesus is the creator (John 1:3) as God is the creator (Job 33:4).
- Jesus is the first and the last (Revelation 1:17) as God is the first and the last (Isaiah 41:4).
- Jesus is the I AM (John 8:58) just as God is the I AM (Exodus 3:14).
- Jesus is the judge (2 Timothy 4:1) as God is the judge (Joel 3:12).
- And ultimately, Jesus is the good shepherd mentioned by Isaiah (Isaiah 40:11) and David (Psalm 23:1).
3. How does a person get to Heaven?
For a Jesus-Centered Perspective on the 5 Pillars:

Fasting—Matthew 6:16-18
Pilgrimage—Isaiah 66:1-2, John 4:21-24.

Islam is a religion of salvation by works because it combines a person’s works with Allah’s grace.
Questions for Small Group/To think about:
1. Christianity teaches that the Trinity—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—is God in three persons and not three different gods.
- Why is it important to understand this teaching and not see Christianity as teaching that we worship three separate gods?
2. How is our interaction with God impacted if God is not all-loving?
3. In John 14, Jesus declares that he is “the way, the truth, and the life” and that no one can get to God the Father except through him. Why is that a big deal?
4. Read Ephesians 2:4-7.
- What attributes of God propelled him to give us life, even when we were “dead because of our sins”?
- If you’re a follower of Jesus, how have you been “united with Christ”?
5. What is your reaction to the five practices/pillars?
- Are they good and worthwhile things to do? Explain.
6. Why would God offer salvation based on faith not deeds?
- Wouldn’t it be easier if our works or actions earned us forgiveness and a spot in heaven, so we’d know how we were doing and if we were living up to God’s expectations? Explain.
7. Scriptures regarding salvation through Jesus: John 6:47, John 8:24, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Philippians 2:5-12, 1 Peter 3:18, 1 John 2:22-23, and 1 John 5:12-13.
- How do these verses offer assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ?
8. As followers of Jesus, should we strive to do good deeds? Why or why not?
9. Why do you think many people accept a religion based upon works, rather than God’s absolute grace and mercy?
10. What part of today’s conversation did you find most helpful, most challenging, most unexpected?
11. What other questions do you have about Islam and its beliefs?
- How can we search together to find answers to those questions?
12. What’s an appropriate way to pray for a friend or family member who is a Muslim, and why?
- Why is it important to understand this teaching and not see Christianity as teaching that we worship three separate gods?
