As we continue in our series “Joy in the Journey” in the book of Philippians, Paul now provides us with God’s Prescription for unity in the church. It's here that Paul begins by reminding us of our true identity, “citizens of heaven.” Why does Paul start with who we are not what we do, because identity determines activity. Who we are determines what we do, not the other way around. One of the reasons for a lack of unity in the church is that many of us are tying to find our identity in what we do instead of in the one we are doing it for, Jesus. Our identity is not in our job its in Jesus. If we are not rooted in this truth we will start to tie our identity to our position instead of person of Jesus. When unity is determined by activity we form clicks but when unity is build on identity we become the church. Please be praying for God’s people that they would find their identity in the person of Jesus not in their position or job.
