STAY: A Journey through the Storm

STAY: A Journey through the Storm

In Matthew 14, Jesus meets His disciples in the storm, calls Peter forward, and catches him when he sinks. This Thanksgiving, we remember that Jesus is enough and that He stays with us.

Welcome

Welcome to Community Life, and happy Thanksgiving! Today we are stepping back into the story of Jesus walking on the water and learning what it means to stay with Him through the storm.
Jesus Is Enough

Last week, the disciples faced not enough bread. This week, they face too much wind and too many waves.
Different problems, same Jesus.

When there is lack, Jesus is enough.
When there is overload, Jesus is enough.

Point 1: Obedience and the Storm

Sometimes obedience leads us into a storm. The disciples were in the boat because Jesus told them to go.

Difficulty does not mean you missed God.
Resistance does not mean Jesus has left you.
Stay with Jesus when obedience gets difficult.
Point 2: Jesus Sees Us

Jesus sees us before we see Him. The disciples could not see Jesus, but Jesus saw them struggling in the boat.

You may not see Him yet, but He sees you. He sees what nobody else can see.
Point 3: Jesus Comes to Us

The disciples were not fighting their way to Jesus. Jesus came to them.

That is the good news: we did not climb our way up to God. Jesus came into our brokenness, gave His life for us, and rose again so we could be forgiven and have life with Him.
Point 4: Staying Means Moving

Sometimes staying with Jesus means moving. Peter stepped out of the boat because Jesus said, “Come.”

Jesus may call you to forgive, to serve, or to have a difficult conversation. Stay with Jesus by taking the next step He gives you.
Point 5: Jesus Catches Us

When Peter sinks, Jesus catches him. Peter cried, “Lord, save me!” and Jesus reached for him.

Jesus catches Peter before He corrects him. When your faith falters, His faithfulness does not.

Point 6: Thanksgiving Reminds Us

Thanksgiving reminds us who is in the boat. Gratitude does not deny the storm. The storm can be real, and Jesus can still be good.

This Thanksgiving, remember not only what God has given you, but Who has been with you all along. Jesus is enough.
Next Step

Choose your next step:
Name one storm you are carrying, then pray: “Jesus, help me stay with You.”

If Jesus is calling you to move, identify one specific act of obedience you will take this week.
Reflect and Respond

• Where has obedience felt difficult lately?
• What makes it hard for you to trust that Jesus sees you?
• What might Jesus be calling you to do this week?
• Where have you seen Jesus stay with you in the middle of a storm?
