Does the faith we claim actually shape the way we live?
We all struggle with favoritism.
Definition:  Favoritism is assigning value to people based on what we see or what they can offer us.
1.  Favoritism judges people by what we see.
God sees what we cannot see.
Who have I already made up my mind about without really knowing them?
2.  Favoritism values people by what they can offer us.
It is easier to move toward people who can offer something to us than people who require something from us.
We can tend to favor people who can contribute over people who need to be carried.
Does the body of Christ at VRL ever cause me to cross a line relationally I wouldn’t naturally cross?
Who naturally gets my attention and who naturally gets overlooked?
3.  God’s Love treats every person as our neighbor.
Loving my neighbor means:  Valuing and treating others as God values and treats us.
Where in my life am I loving someone who may never be able to repay or reciprocate that love?
4.  Mercy views and treats people the way Jesus has treated us.
Mercy:  Responding to someone with compassion instead of judgement and condemnation.
We give mercy because we desperately need mercy ourselves.
Who have I been quicker to judge than to show mercy?
The more we understand how Jesus has treated us, the harder it becomes to look down on anyone else.
Next Step:  The First Five.  When you leave church can you intentionally spend your first five minutes looking for someone unfamiliar instead of immediately finding the people you already know.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Prayer helps us trust and depend on God's power, not our own. Our trained Prayer team encourages, listens, and connects people with God through life's circumstances. After each weekend service, head to the lighted cross in the auditorium, or use the prayer request form below, and our team will pray with you.

GIVE NOW

Trusting God with your finances is part of growing as a disciple. How we manage our time, talents, and resources reflects spiritual maturity (Matthew 25:14-30). Your tithes and gifts through VRL expand God's Kingdom, supporting His work in Spokane and around the world.
