Pursuing the Heart of God | My God
This week, Pastor Nathan Wakefield concludes our sermon series, Pursuing the Heart of God. 2 Samuel 24 teaches us that what made David different from so many others was not his personal righteousness, wisdom, or pedigree. What set David apart was his consistent commitment to making God his own personal God. Video of the service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

1. Fallen: David Faced Temptations and Even Fell into Temptations Just Like You and Me (2 Samuel 24:1-9)
• God allows His own people to go through trials and temptations (1-2).
• Even amidst temptation we remain fully responsible, yet God faithfully provides a way out (2 Samuel 24:3; 1 Corinthians 10:13).
• Despite this, real humans still succumb to sin (4-9).
Action Step: Do not allow our fallen nature to become an excuse for sin, nor allow past sin to paralyze your future.

2. Discipline: God Has Tools That He Can Use to Shape Each of Us (2 Samuel 24:10-17)
• God has equipped each of us with a conscience (10).
• God is both just and merciful (11-14).
• God’s discipline has purpose (15-17).
Action Step: Reflect on your view of God’s discipline. Do you perceive it as vindictive or as purposeful and loving?

3. Relationship: God Is Not Just a God; He Is My God (2 Samuel 24:18-25)
• Unlike false gods, the LORD alone is worthy of our worship (18-21).
• More than general worship, He desires your personal, individual worship (22-24).
• Beyond individual worship, He seeks a deep, personal relationship with you (25).
Action Step: Evaluate your connection with God. Are you engaging in mere worship, truly personal worship, or a transformative relationship?
