Jesus meets a man living in isolation, bondage and torment, and sets him free. His story reminds us that Jesus has authority over what holds us captive. But freedom is not the end. We are called to remain rooted in God and tell others what He has done.

1. The outcast
- The man was in bondage and chained down.
- Sometimes we can be imprisoned by depression, guilt, or unforgiveness.
- We can often feel rejected as outcasts: rejected as believers by friends because of our faith, excluded in the business world, or excluded from our families because of our faith.
- We need to fill our house with the Word and the Holy Spirit. God gives us community so we don’t have to do it alone.
- Jesus was rejected and alone, bearing our sins. What He had in mind was the calling of God on His life, which was us.
Luke 11:24-26 (NIV)
When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.

2. The authority
- Jesus has the power and authority to set you free.
- Jesus did not come to condemn us, but to save us and set us free.
- We need to come into the light and allow God to deal with the things that hold us captive.
- We have the Holy Spirit living in us. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in us.
John 3:16-17 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
- Jesus has the power and authority to set you free.

3. Go tell
- What should we do now? Repent and be baptised.
- Jesus tells us to go and make disciples.
- We are called to tell others what God has done for us.
- We have been freed to free others.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
