HAVE YOU BEEN GROWING?

Would your best friend or spouse say that you've been growing?
EXPERIENCING GOD IN EVERYDAY LIFE
A Resource I’d Recommend

Richard, Mike & Daniel Blackaby · Lifeway, 2026
• Builds on his father, Henry Blackaby's, classic Experiencing God
• Shifts the focus to spiritual formation in the ordinary, day-to-day, by developing habits that lead to maturity

HABIT 1

EMBRACING GRACE

And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. - Luke 2:40

All GROWTH is a result of GRACE.
HABIT 2

KEEPING CUSTOMS

Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom.- Luke 2:41–42

HABIT 3

ENGAGING GOD'S WORD

Sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions . . . amazed at his understanding. - Luke 2:46-47

The inherited habit becomes an internal one.
PICKING UP THE STORY
HABIT 4

CLARIFYING IDENTITY AND CALLING

“Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?”
KJV cross-reference: “...about my Father's business.”

• “Who” — his identity is with his Heavenly Father.
• “What” — his calling is his Father's activity.
HABIT 5

TOLERATING BEING MISUNDERSTOOD

“But they did not understand what he was saying to them.” v.50

• No over-explaining, no chasing validation from those closest to him.
• He was questioned approximately 180x across the Gospels.
HABIT 6

PRACTICING OBEDIENCE

He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
HABIT 7

LIVING WITH NO RECOGNITION

The gap between Luke 2:52 and Luke 3 —
( eighteen yearsof silence)

• No verse records of what he did with those years.
• No applause, no platform, no audience tracked his progress.
• He grew by developing habits for an Audience of One.

GROWTH TESTED: WILDERNESS
Habits → Growth → A Life That Holds

Luke 4:1–13 — forty days, hunger, isolation: “If you are the Son of God…”
• Every temptation offered a shortcut around the growth the seven habits had produced.
• 40 days tested the growth.
• The next three years were sustained by growth: hostile crowds, betrayal, unjust trial, and the cross.
THIRTY YEARS FORMED THE HABITS.
FORTY DAYS TESTED THEM.
THREE AND A HALF YEARS PROVED THEM.

Are you ready to grow?
