ORIGIN STORY God Starts What Can't Be Stopped - Who is The Lord? - Week 4

Exodus 1:8
Eventually, a new king came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph. NLT

Exodus 1:9-10
Look, the people of Israel now outnumber us and are stronger than we are. We must make a plan to keep them from growing even more. NLT

Exodus 1:12
But the more the Egyptians oppressed them, the more the Israelites multiplied and spread. NLT

THE PATTERN: God starts something, people try to ruin it, sin damages it, circumstances threaten it, but God keeps moving His story forward

Exodus 3:4-5
God called to him from the middle of the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!’ ‘Here I am!’ Moses replied. ‘Do not come any closer,’ the LORD warned. ‘Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.’ NLT

Exodus 3:7-8
I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them. NLT

Exodus 3:10
Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt. NLT

Exodus 3:12
God answered, ‘I will be with you.’ NLT

Our inadequacy is answered by God’s presence

The better question isn’t, “Am I enough?” It’s, “Who is with me?”

Exodus 3:12
When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain. NLT

Exodus 3:14-15
God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you. Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.’ NLT

Exodus 5:1
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Let my people go. NLT

Exodus 5:2
Who is the LORD? Why should I listen to him and let Israel go? I don’t know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go. NLT

Exodus 12:12
I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. NLT

Exodus 12:12-13
On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the LORD! But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. NLT

The lamb dies so the people can live

John 1:29
Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! NLT

1 Corinthians 5:7
Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us. NLT

John 8:34
I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. NLT

Sin always sells itself as freedom before it becomes slavery

God doesn’t want to make your slavery easier - He wants to set you free

Exodus 12:36
The LORD caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth! NLT

Exodus 14:11
Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? NLT

Yesterday’s experience with God doesn’t automatically create today’s trust in God

Exodus 14:13-14
Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. NLT

What God starts - Pharaoh cannot stop

Stop asking, “What do I need God to fix?” Start asking, “What has a grip on me that Jesus wants to free me from?”

God does not just want to improve your Egypt - He wants to lead you out of it

Will you trust the way God has provided?

Are you living like someone who’s been set free, or are you still volunteering to live in Egypt?

Who is the LORD to you?
