Sermon Series Overview:
This summer has been packed with sermon series that had us viewing movies in June and talking about how U.S. history has been shaped by our faith over the past 250 years in July. For the month of August, we switch gears and make it personal. We are excited to begin a 5-week sermon series titled "Words Matter."
Throughout this series, we will dive into the New Testament book of James. This small book; reflecting wisdom from Proverbs and Jesus' teachings known as the Sermon on the Mount, repeatedly addresses how we as believers communicate with God, with one another, and with the world around us. Together, we’ll examine common communication hurdles and discover practical, Christ-centered wisdom for our everyday speech. Along the way, we’ll also integrate helpful communication tools inspired by Jefferson Fisher’s book, The Next Conversation: Argue Less, Talk More.
We kick off the series by looking at James 1:19–27. Most relationship conflicts don't happen because people disagree, but because they feel unheard. James teaches us that spiritual maturity begins not when we figure out what to say, but when we slow down enough to truly listen.
In this message, we’ll explore how being "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to grow angry" acts as a spiritual discipline: one that transforms our hearts and lowers the tension often found in our homes, workplaces, and relationships.

Weekly Sermon Overview:
As we conclude our sermon series, Words Matter, we turn to chapter 5 and the call to live lives marked by patience. We are encouraged to be patient with one another and steadfast through the struggles and challenges life brings our way. The prophets, along with those who remained faithful and endured under pressure, serve as examples for us to follow. No matter what we face, we are called to speak words that bring life, hope, and encouragement in all of our interactions.
