7 Deadly Sins | Ep. 6 | "Vanity"

7 Deadly Sins | Ep. 6 | "Vanity"

As Carly Simon almost sang, ‘You’re so vain, you probably think this sermon is about you.’ And honestly… it is. But it’s also much bigger than that. While pride often comes from strength (I actually think I’m better), vanity often comes from insecurity (I need you to confirm that I’m enough). And if you’re not sure that’s true, just look around. Why do companies spend billions marketing to your insecurities? Why are social media platforms built to keep you seen, liked, and followed? Why do so many today dream of becoming influencers? Vanity isn’t just a struggle—it’s the air we breathe. The danger is not that vanity is obvious, but that it feels normal. Which means we all carry symptoms. Today, we’re going to look at how to recognize it in ourselves and how to actually get free.

Whatever determines your worth will eventually determine your life.

Discussion Questions

- Recognize: What person, possession, or accomplishment are you most tempted to look to for your worth? How does it shape the way you live?
- Repent: What is one thing that may be feeding your pursuit of counterfeit glory? What would it look like to turn away from it this week?
- Receive: What makes it difficult for you to simply receive your worth from God rather than trying to earn or prove it? How might looking at the cross change that?
