Prophecy is a Spirit enabled message from God through one person towards others.
3. Grow up
4. Guiding practice
Key Theme:
God gives spiritual gifts to be exercised in a way that build up the church through love, order, and biblical discernment rather than through disorder, pride, or denial.
Key Application:
Pursue love, desire God's gifts, and exercise discernment so that everything we say and do contributes to the edification of Christ's body. Rather than reacting to abuses by denying spiritual gifts or embracing practices uncritically, believers should test everything by Scripture and seek what most effectively builds up others.
Key Verses:
1 Corinthians 14:40 “But all things should be done decently and in order.”
Key Questions:
1. Which extreme are you more naturally drawn toward when it comes to spiritual gifts; disorder or denial? Why? Personal experience, reading other scholars, personal study, or something else?
2. Why do you think Paul places such a strong emphasis on intelligibility and understanding in corporate worship? What does that reveal about God's heart for His people and for unbelievers?
3. What practical steps can you take to become more biblically discerning rather than simply accepting or rejecting spiritual experiences and claims?

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
