If you had to spend three days stranded anywhere (besides inside a fish!), where would you least want to be, and why?
What part of Jonah's story stands out to you the most after reading these passages? Why do you think that part captures your attention?
Jonah responded to God's call by going the opposite direction. Why do you think people sometimes resist or avoid what they believe God is asking them to do?
Pastor Jonathan shared that what felt like judgment to Jonah was actually God's rescue. How have you seen God use difficult circumstances to accomplish something good in someone's life? If you're comfortable, feel free to share an example from your own experience.
The people of Nineveh responded to God's warning with repentance, while Jonah struggled with God's mercy. What do these two very different responses teach us about God's heart and about our own hearts?
During the message, Pastor Jonathan challenged us with two questions: How do you try to run and escape from something you know God wants for you? and How might God be saving you through a situation that feels painful, hurtful, even like judgment? Which of those questions resonates with you most today, and why?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for pursuing us even when we wander or resist Your leading. Thank You that Your mercy reaches us in both our successes and our failures. Help us to trust You when Your plans are different from our own and to recognize that You are often working for our good even through difficult circumstances. Give us the courage to obey when You call, the humility to receive Your correction, and the compassion to extend Your grace to others just as You have extended it to us. Use our lives to accomplish Your purposes and remind us that nothing is beyond Your reach. We pray this in Your good and gracious name, Amen
