We engage the Lord through daily personal encounters by welcoming the Holy Spirit, asking the Lord to speak to us, praying the Lord's Prayer and listening for His response.

It is easy to hear God when you are in His presence.

Here is a guide to help you encounter God daily!
Solitude Overview:

A way you connect with God is through solitude. You feel close to God when you get alone to meet with Him. In this special union, you are able to be intimate and vulnerable with the Lord. When you know it is just you and Him in the room, you are able to enter into the Holy Place, where God’s Presence is. Your desire is to give Him all of your attention and affection, so you remove all distractions. When you get alone with the Lord, everything changes because you feel seen, heard and safe. To you, getting alone is a holy and a sacred time. Solitude is not just getting alone or sitting in silence, it is the act of listening. There is no greater intimacy than getting alone with God, so that when He whispers, you absorb everything He says.
Some Encouragement For Solitude:

Your relationship with God is built upon spending time alone with Him. Solitude requires preparation. Plan and prepare for your daily encounters with the Lord. Remove distractions that take your attention away from Jesus. You just need simplicity to lead you into His presence; remember little connections create a big impact. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t feel Him every time, make sure He feels you. Keep setting aside intentional time. Don’t get weary in spending time in solitude in your daily encounters. Intimacy is achieved when you get alone with Him.

Solitude is not isolation.
Isolation pulls us away from people; solitude draws us closer to God.

The goal of solitude isn't simply to be alone.
The goal is to become more aware of God's presence.

It's okay to start small.
Even 10–15 intentional minutes of solitude can become a life-giving daily rhythm.

Consistency matters more than duration.
A faithful daily habit often bears more fruit than occasional extended retreats.

(1) Connect With God In Solitude

Here are some practical ways that you can connect with God.

Create a Dedicated Prayer Space:
Designate a specific chair, room, corner, or prayer closet that becomes your regular meeting place with God. Returning to the same place helps build consistency and expectation.

Take a Prayer Walk:
Walk through your neighborhood, a park, or a quiet trail without music or podcasts. Simply talk with God and listen.

Sit in Silence:
Spend 5–20 minutes in complete silence before the Lord. Resist the urge to fill every moment with words. Let your heart become still.

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10

Wake Up Before Everyone Else:
Use the quiet of the early morning before the demands of the day begin. Jesus often withdrew early in the morning to pray (Mark 1:35).

Stay After Church:
Instead of rushing home, remain in the sanctuary for a few extra minutes after everyone leaves to quietly reflect and pray.

Find a Place in Nature:
Sit beside a lake, under a tree, on your porch, or anywhere in creation where you can quietly enjoy God's handiwork and worship Him.

Fast from Noise:
Turn off the TV, radio, podcasts, and social media for a period of time. Solitude often requires silence from more than just people.

Drive Without Distractions:
Instead of listening to music or talk radio, drive in silence and invite the Holy Spirit to speak during your commute.

Eat a Meal Alone with God:
Occasionally have breakfast or lunch by yourself with your Bible and journal, treating it as intentional time with the Lord.

Take a Personal Retreat:
Set aside a few hours—or even an entire day—to withdraw from your normal routine for prayer, worship, Scripture reading, and reflection.

End the Day in Quiet:
Before bed, spend a few minutes reviewing the day with God. Thank Him, confess anything He brings to mind, and listen for His voice.

Journal Your Time with God:
Bring a notebook and write whatever God impresses upon your heart during your time of solitude.

Leave Your Phone Behind:
If possible, leave your phone in another room or put it in airplane mode. One of the greatest obstacles to solitude today is constant interruption.

Practice "Listening Prayer":
Rather than spending the entire time talking, ask God a question like, "Lord, what do You want me to know today?" Then quietly wait with an open Bible and a receptive heart.

Watch a Sunrise or Sunset
Use the beauty and stillness of creation to worship God and meditate on His goodness.
(2) Worship & Pray in the Holy Spirit

Start with your favorite worship song and pray in your heavenly language.
(3) The Lord's Prayer

A starting guide when praying to God every day!

"Pray then like this: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name...

Begin praying by declaring,
“Father, you are HOLY!”

Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven...

Pray for God's perfect will to be done in your life.
"God, not my will, but yours!"

Give us this day our daily bread...
Tell God what it is that you need. He is our Provider!

And forgive us our debts...
Repent. Lay down your sins before God and ask for forgiveness.

As we also have forgiven our debtors...
List by name those you need to forgive and ask God for help!

And lead us not into temptation...
Grace is a gift we all have access to. Open the gift and accept God's grace to overcome sin.

But deliver us from evil...
Declare, "No spirit but the Holy Spirit" is welcome in your life!
(4) Go Through Your Personal Prayer List

15 Minute Scripture Reading:
READ:
1 Chapter in Psalms
1 Chapter in Proverbs
1 Chapter in one of the Gospels

30 Minute Scripture Reading:
READ:
1 Chapter in Psalms
1 Chapter in Proverbs
1 Chapter in one of the Gospels

(6) Give God Room to Speak to You

"Speak Lord, Your servant is listening!"
(7) Ask Him to Teach You His Ways

Exodus 33:13b says, “If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.”

After He speaks to you, ask Him to teach you.

(1) Repeat what you heard God say out loud.
(2) Write down what He says and obey Him.

This is a way we steward God’s words!
(8) Close in Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for inviting me into Your presence. In a world filled with constant noise and endless distractions, teach me to slow down and make room for You. Help me to value moments of solitude... not as time alone, but as sacred moments to encounter Your heart.

Quiet every competing voice within me. Calm my anxious thoughts, remove every distraction, and draw my attention back to You. Create in me a hunger for Your presence that is greater than my desire for comfort, entertainment, or busyness.

Lord, give me spiritual eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart of understanding. Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.

Open my heart to Your Word, Your wisdom, Your conviction, and Your encouragement. Teach me to recognize Your voice and to respond with faith and obedience.

As I spend time alone with You, transform me from the inside out. Let every moment in Your presence shape my character, strengthen my faith, renew my mind, and deepen my love for You. May I leave each encounter more like Jesus than when I came.

Thank You for Your promise that when I seek You with all my heart, I will find You. Help me to make solitude a regular rhythm of my life, not out of obligation, but out of a deep desire to know You more.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.

A Wellspring Thought:

Solitude is more than finding a quiet place—it is intentionally creating space to encounter the presence of God. When we silence the noise around us, we become more aware of the voice within us. God often speaks His deepest truths in our quietest moments.
