Summer Stories: Life Lessons You Learned as a Kid

The Characters:
• Lawyer: A scribe by trade; these men would study the Law of Moses, interpret the Law and teach it in the synagogues. Modern equivalent would be a Seminary or Theology Professor.

• Jesus: The Master Teacher. Here we see Jesus acting in the role of a teacher guiding students into the Truth.
• Traveler: A man headed from Jerusalem to Jericho. He is ambushed, beaten and left for dead
• Priest: A official of the Synagogue who officiates the sacrifices and fulfillment of the laws. Modern equivalent would be similar to a Pastor.
• Levite: A synagogue attendant who aided in the giving of sacrifices and upkeep of the temple. Modern equivalent would be similar to a Deacon of the Church.
• Samaritan: Technically were Israelites but not seen as part of the Jewish community. Descended from the Assyrian Captivity where the Assyrians intermarried with the Jewish people They wanted to help rebuild the Temple in Ezra and Nehemiah ’s day during the Babylonian Captivity but were not allowed so they become hostile to the work being done Not considered a “neighbor” by the Jewish custom of the day.
