Church 101
Part 5 – How We Family
August 9, 2026
We have a responsibility for each other as a church family!
Treat each other with RESPECT.
1 Timothy 5:1 NLT
1 Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers.

Ask questions, don’t give arrogant answers.
Confess that you don’t have all the answers.
Talk from your mistakes, elevate their successes.
Listen to them!
We have a responsibility for each other as a church family!
Ask questions, don’t feel like you have the answers.
Confess that you don’t have the answers, but you want them.
Share your mistakes elevate their successes.

Treat each other with PURITY.
1 Timothy 5:2 NLT
2 Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters.
As family we treat each other with purity by…
· the words we use to describe each other
Ephesians 4:29 NLT
29 Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
As family we treat each other with purity by…
· filtering the thoughts we think about each other
James 1:14–15 NLT
14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
Romans 12:2 NLT
2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Matthew 5:28 NLT
28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a [person] with lust has already committed adultery with [them] in [their] heart.
1 Timothy 5:2 (NLT)
2 Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters.
We have a responsibility for each other as a church family!
We care for the vulnerable among us.
1 Timothy 5:3&16 NLT
3 Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her. 16 The church can care for the widows who are truly alone.

James 1:27 NLT
27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
We have a responsibility for each other as a church family!
1 Timothy 5:4 NLT
4 But if [the vulnerable person] has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God.
