FALSE GODS PROMISE WHAT ONLY THE TRUE GOD PROVIDES
A DIVIDED HEART CANNOT STAND
FALSE GODS DEMAND MORE THAN THEY DELIVER
THE TRUE GOD IS STILL TURNING LIVES AROUND
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Ice breaker - If you had to eliminate one modern convenience for a month (social media, streaming TV, online shopping, coffee, etc.), which would be the hardest to give up—and why?

1. False gods promise what only the true God provides.
The sermon pointed out that idols aren't always statues—they're often good things we begin looking to for our identity, security, or satisfaction. What are some of the "modern Baals" people are tempted to trust today? Which one do you think is most common in our culture?

2. "How long will you waver between two opinions?"
Elijah challenged Israel to stop living with divided devotion. Where do you see the temptation to "have one foot with God and one foot somewhere else" in your own life? What usually pulls your heart in that direction?

3. False gods demand more than they deliver.
The prophets of Baal exhausted themselves trying to earn an answer that never came. Have you ever experienced chasing something you thought would satisfy—success, approval, comfort, control, possessions—only to discover it left you wanting more? What did you learn from that experience?

4. Elijah repaired the altar before he prayed.
The altar represented restoring what had been neglected rather than creating something new. If "repairing the altar" is a picture of renewing your relationship with God, what is one practice or habit you may need to rebuild or prioritize again?

5. God's desire is always to turn hearts back to Him.
Elijah's prayer wasn't about winning an argument—it was about people returning to God. How does that shape the way we should interact with people who believe differently than we do? What does it look like to speak truth while also showing genuine love?

6. "The LORD—He is God!"
The people's response came after they saw God reveal Himself. As you look back over your life, when have you clearly seen God's faithfulness or power at work? How can remembering those moments strengthen your faith the next time you're tempted to trust something else?
