HERE IS THE ROOT ISSUE:

The ISSUE ISN’T SPORTS, the ISSUE IS the HEART.

HERE IS THE ROOT QUESTION:

How can SPORTS be REDEEMED?

A HISTORIC EXAMPLE OF REDEEMING SPORTS

James Naismith—November 6, 1861–November 28, 1939.

Canadian–American, Educator, Christian Minister, Sports Coach, and Inventor.
hey
Tasked with inventing an indoor sport/activity that would keep a bunch of boys occupied during the long winter months in New England.

He took the features of other sports like soccer and football and created basketball as a non-contact indoor sport.

December 21, 1891, the first game of basketball was played in Springfield, Massachusetts.

9-vs-9, with the goal of tossing a soccer ball into a peach basket.

The first game ended with the final score of 1-0.

“To win men for the Master through the gym” (1889).

“You will see that the aim of the game is to develop the man and not to make money or even to draw a crowd and while the latter objects are good yet I feel that the other ought to be the chief purpose for which the game should be played.” (1898)
hey
“Why should the play of a group of young men be entirely spoiled to further the ambitions of some coach?” (1930s)

“Let us all be able to lose gracefully and to win courteously; to accept criticism as well as praise; and last of all, to appreciate the attitude of the other fellow at all times.” (1930s)
hey
“What is this all about? What is life about? What are you going to do? What motto will you hold up before you?. . . I want to leave the world a little bit better than I found it.” (1932)
HERE IS THE ROOT QUESTION:

How can SPORTS be REDEEMED?

How will Northland Church be a part and partner of REDEEMING Sports for the Glory of God, the Salvation of the World, and for Human Flourishing?
