What's a time in your life when things didn't go according to plan, but it ended up leading to something better than you expected?
The story of the Red Sea takes place after God had freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. As they escaped, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army after them. Trapped between the army and the sea, the people panicked. Why do you think fear can cause us to lose perspective so quickly, even after we've seen God work in our lives?
The Israelites most likely expected God to lead them to freedom by the fastest route, but instead He led them on a longer path that eventually brought them to the Red Sea. Have you ever experienced a season when God seemed to be leading you in an unexpected direction? What did you learn from it?
One of the themes of the story of the Red Sea is that God often works in ways people don't anticipate. Looking back over your life, what are some moments where you’ve seen God answer prayer, open a door, or provide unexpected help, and what stands out most to you about those experiences?
The Israelites were rescued through the Red Sea, but not every story in Scripture ends with an immediate miracle. Sometimes God delivers people from a situation, and other times He walks with them through it. What is the difference between those two experiences, and why is it important to remember both?
The Red Sea became a defining reminder of God's faithfulness for generations of God's people. If you had to remind yourself of one moment that proves God is faithful, what would it be—and why does that moment still matter to you today?
Closing Prayer
God, thank You for being faithful even when we are afraid, uncertain, or unable to see what You are doing. Just as You led the Israelites through the Red Sea, You continue to guide Your people today. Help us remember Your faithfulness in the past so that we can trust You with our present circumstances and our future. Give us eyes to see Your work, even when it comes in unexpected ways. Strengthen our faith, calm our fears, and remind us that You are with us in every season. In Jesus' name, Amen.
