Animated: Learning to live by the Spirit. Being brought to life; experiencing this fresh new life.

*Paul must reiterate that it’s nothing to do with religious human effort (that’s the false gospel), but faith in Christ alone is what saves and begins the journey of life in the spirit.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

What is the fruit of the Spirit?

1. Qualities that reflect God’s character
2. Qualities that reflect the behaviour of those learning to live by the Spirit
3. Singular in meaning - All in package deal - from single source (The Spirit)
4. Proof of the Spirit’s work in your life

Learning how the Spirit animates us in this way:

1. Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit is a life-long process
FRUIT TAKE TIME TO GROW
-The Spirit uses our lives to help cultivate the fruit within us

2. The Fruit of the Spirit is not a list to master but a character to develop.

So I say, walk by the Spirit… V.16

The Greek word Paul uses here for walk is peripateō. It literally means "to walk around" or "to conduct one's daily life."By using peripateō, Paul is saying that being "animated" by the Spirit is about the ordinary cadence of your everyday.
This is about our CONSISTENCY

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. V. 25

In the original Greek, "keep in step" is the verb stoichairo. It was a technical term used in ancient Greek military. It literally meant "to draw up in a line" or "to march in a straight row, falling lockstep into the established cadence."
Move to the cadence of the Spirit. He’s your conductor/your leader…
This is about our SUBMISSION…

Spirit is a gentleman – not crude, controlling, harsh, or rough.
Always leads us in a way that is perfectly aligned with Jesus.

3. The Fruit of the Spirit is for the benefit of others.
The fruit of the Spirit is meant to impact the people around us.
Think about how:
- Your patience impacts someone.
- Your kindness impacts someone.
- Your gentleness impacts someone.
- Your Christ-like love impacts those around you.
