Why would Jesus talk about mercy?
English vs Hebrew: “Mercy”

• English
Compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

• Hebrew
Hesed
חֶסֶד | (KHEH-sed)
Loyal love. Covenant kindness. Steadfast compassion that holds on — even when it has every right to let go.
You cannot show mercy unless you have the authority to deliver the punishment.
What is the difference between mercy and grace?
Mercy vs Grace

Grace:
• Receiving something I don’t deserve - God’s attitude of favor toward the guilty.

Mercy:
• Not receiving something I do deserve - God’s attitude to those in distress or trouble.
How do we become ‘The Merciful’?”

Mercy is a gift for the broken…not a reward for the perfect.
3 Ways to Walk in Mercy

2. Give Second Chances
Jesus never taught us to receive mercy without extending it.
