Wonder Bread
John 6:26-35
Pastor Jerry Koller
John 6:26-35
Pastor Jerry Koller
Jesus cut to the quick. The reason they had come was to have their physical needs met.
Food is a substance that is used to nourish our bodies.
• The word “food” refers to all kinds of food, or to food in general.
• They should be directing their efforts in obtaining food that will not perish, that will lead to eternal life.
• The word “food” refers to all kinds of food, or to food in general.
• They should be directing their efforts in obtaining food that will not perish, that will lead to eternal life.
They were focusing on actual works rather than on bread - on “What can we do?”
Jesus responds by telling them to focus on what God has done or will do through His Son.
All they can do is to believe in the One whom God has sent.
All they can do is to believe in the One whom God has sent.
They ask for a sign as proof and give an example of a past sign.
Jesus corrects their erroneous example.
Oral tradition is a term that refers to the practice of passing down from generation-to-generation cultural legacies, history, beliefs, and values through spoken word.
• One of these oral traditions is called the Midrash.
• This group of oral traditions started forming approximately 400 years before the birth of Christ.
• One of these oral traditions is called the Midrash.
• This group of oral traditions started forming approximately 400 years before the birth of Christ.
The Midrash commentary on Exodus 16:4 passage says that just as the former redeemer (Moses) caused manna to descend from heaven, so also the latter Redeemer (Messiah) will cause manna to descend.
• If Jesus is truly the Redeemer, the Messiah, surely, He would be able to do the same.
• If Jesus is truly the Redeemer, the Messiah, surely, He would be able to do the same.
Jesus was talking about true bread from heaven that will give life—eternal life
Jesus is saying that He is the true bread that comes from heaven, so quit looking for physical bread.
Mankind is in the same position today as when Jesus presented this truth. • Mankind still faces spiritual hunger.
• It continues to seek out the solution to their hunger.
• It continues to misunderstand what will fill its hunger.
• It will continue to work out their own way to satisfy its hunger rather than receiving the gift that will eliminate their hunger and thirst.

• It will continue to work out their own way to satisfy its hunger rather than receiving the gift that will eliminate their hunger and thirst.
Philosophers and wise men have asked three basic questions for a very long time. Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here?
• “Who am I?” deals with the identity of man.
• “Where did I come from?” deals with the quest for God.
• “Why am I here?” deals with man's struggle with sin.
• These questions are asked because people are spiritually hungry—whether they realize it or not.

The idea of working has to do with laboring for some kind of reward.
• In keeping with His comparison between the physical and the spiritual, Jesus points out how we labor and labor for things we feel are essential to fill the hunger void we have.
• Rather that laboring for things that will perish, Jesus tells them to change their focus to that which leads to eternal life.

What can we do? The answer is nothing.
• Man can’t do anything on his own to fill the void that was created by sin.
• Man can’t do anything on his own to fill the void that was created by sin.
The ability to believe in Jesus is God’s work, not the work of men.
• The Father gives true bread.
• The true bread He gives, gives life.
• It is God who allows one to believe in Him whom He has sent from heaven, the One who gives life to the world.

reveals who is the true bread.
APPLICATION
Man searches for his identity. He asks, “Who am I?” He looks to the sky for an explanation. He gazes at the stars, the planets, and creation for meaning.
Man is engaged in a quest for God. He asks “Where did I come from?” He works to find an answer to his question.
Man struggles with sin. He asks, “Why am I here?” He ignores his spiritual condition.
Jesus Christ came to save man from the condemnation and bondage of sin. He came to bring life. He is the only solution and explanation that gives life meaning, purpose, and hope.

Volunteers Wanted
We have several “jobs” that need attention around the church and are looking for volunteers to do them. There are tags on the bulletin board inside the office with more specific details about each job. If you’re able to help, please contact Pastor Jerry or Kim for more information.
Clean Windows
·Job 1: Use Windex to clean the sanctuary windows (inside and outside).
·Job 2: Clean the glass in all the doors and the rear of the Sanctuary.
Weed Flower Beds
·Pick a flower bed area around the building and pull weeds. This is an ongoing job, all summer long, and any one is welcomed to stop by and help anytime.
Sweep and Mop
·Sweep and/or mop the gym floor.
·This job can be divided into sections, and one can do 1/4 of the floor at a time on a rotating basis. Or it’s a great opportunity for a family to do the whole thing together.

🔥 Let It Burn: Oktoberfest 2026 🔥
Goal: $70,100
In 2010, we began collecting an Annual Oktoberfest Offering to pay our mortgage payment for the next 12 months. We financed $850,000 to build our new addition with the purpose that it be built, not only for use by FBC, but also as a community space. As of November 1, 2026, we will have an approximate balance of $70,100 left on this mortgage. Our goal is to pay it off this year! Start planning how you can help us achieve this goal so we can celebrate this historic milestone.

Summer Camp Scholarships Needed
At this time, we have 8 kids attending Lake Ann Camp this summer. A week of camp costs $600-700. If you would like to support a summer camper, scholarships are now being accepted. Partial scholarships are fine, every dollar helps! Please be sure to mark "Summer Camp" in the memo. Thank you!
Hearing Assistance Devices Available
We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.
Have You Considered?
Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
Pop Cans = Scholarships
Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
